In order:
1999 Carter SD-10
1996 Carter D-10
1960's Miller Custom
2006 Carter U-12
1966 Sho~Bud D-10
1997 Carter U-12
1970's Miller D-10
I still own the Sho~Bud and the '70s Miller
I would love to have a S-10 with 5 and 5 as a sort-of Universal. Probably a ShoPro or ZB. I like a vintage wood neck, heavy body tone. My Miller is pretty sweet. _________________ RICK ABBOTT

I've only been at this 6 years, and I see I have some serious catching up to do! But here goes (* means I still own it)
2011 Stage One (the only one bought new)
2007 Zumsteel Universal
1975 Sho-Bud 12 string * - an ongoing project guitar
1974 Sho-Bud Pro II * - also an ongoing project guitar
1984 Zumsteel D-10
2007 MSA Millenium 3 *
1953 Fender Deluxe 8 *
2006 Millenium 2 *
The price for all of them combined would not buy barely buy a used sports car. So, in the end, this is a pretty cheap hobby (addiction?). _________________ Bringing steel guitar to the bukid of Negros Oriental! |

Supro 8 string lap steel
2010 Wilcox SD10
I'm new to pedal steel and the Wilcox was fairly inexpensive. I figured I didn't want to invest a whole lot of money until I was sure pedal steel was for me. So far it is working out OK and eventually I will actually be playing rather than just doing string and bar exercises.

Previously owned:
mid 70's Sho-Bud Pro III D-10
1971 Emmons D-10
1993 GFI SD-10
Currently own:
mid 70's Emmons D-12
late 70's Emmons ST-12
2017 GFI SD-12
For me, 10 strings are fine, but I have found the hard way that as a guy who plays with rock bands I REALLY prefer Extended E9 (and keeping a high G on the C6 neck of my D-12 for my own entertainment). |

The guitars I primarily used professionally on gigs for a period of time were, in chronological order...
1968... Fender 2000
1968... 1968 Sho~Bud Crossover
1970... 1970 Sho~Bud Professional
1975... 1975 Sho~Bud Pro III
1977... back to the '70 Professional
1983... 1983 Emmons PP D-10 cut-tail
1987... 1966 Emmons D-10 bolt-on
1992... Fessenden D-10, black
1995... Fessenden D-10 rosewood/maple
1997... Fessenden D-10 coco-bolo/maple
1998... 1965 Emmons D-10 wraparound
2000... 1964 Emmons D-10 wraparound
2014... 2014 Infinity D-10
There are/were/have been many, many varied guitars I've owned interspersed amongst the ones listed above, either for speculation, experimentation, or for resale that I occasionally had on gigs. In the last few decades I've been seen with Emmons S-10s, or a Bigsby T-8, or Stringmasters, or a Sho~Bud Maverick played non-pedal, or some guitars that were just for one-night or a short periods of time. But the ones above are the guitars I think I've been primarily associated with onstage. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

I started playing on a D-8 Stringmaster in 1976, that guitar was my brother's. I recall is was not the long scale version, off white.
I then bought two sunburst Fender 400s, one disassembled. I played the other one until 2000. I still have both. Not sure of the year.
In 2000, I bought a black 1982 S10 Emmons, Jimmy Day setup. Have that one too.
Next I got a long scale D-8 Stringmaster, serial # in low 200s, off white.
Finally, I bought a restored red lacquer 1977 D10 Emmons fatback. That's my current squeeze! _________________ Red Emmons D10 fatback #2246D with sweet Hugh Briley split cases, Black Emmons S10 #1466S, '73 Fender "Snakeskin" Twin Reverb, Peavey Nashville 400, Line 6 Pod XT, Fender 400, Fender Stringmaster Double-8, too many guitars, one bass! |

Old thread ran from 2016 to 2018. Looks like a toss up between Henry and WC.
Guess I missed it then or was too timid to list mine.😏 I bet some of you did too or need to update, so here goes: Not sure of the chronology except for the first 6 or so: I was really fortunate enough to own a couple of them at the same time.
MSA Red Baron first pedal steel experience somewhere late 70s.
70s? Emmons p/p basketweave D10 8+6
'87 Sierra SCM14SE Stafford Elegante 8+7 Red
'92 Remington SU12 7+4/5 Red. worst guitar ever. Owned same one twice Only guitar I ever bought new.
Lamar keyless D10 8+6 lacquer. His 1st built for resale.
'95 Mullen PRP D10 8+4/8 Black Mica....the one that got away
'93 Derby D10 8+8 Black/rosewood mica
'94 Mullen #2 D10 PRP 8+8 polish beautiful blackberry lacquer
Sho~Bud D10 Crossover
Emmons S8 3+1 Rosewood
2002 Williams Keyless 400 D10 8+5 Ebony lacquer
'87 or 88 Sierra SCM14SE Stafford 8+7 w/arm lever Silver Cloud
Cougar Slidemaster 6 string 3+4 Black mica
'81 ZumSteel D10 8+7/8 Orange vinyl wrap over orig. Rosewood
'96 Mullen #3 D10 PRP 8+7/8 Black vinyl wrap over orig. mahogany mica
'86 MCI Rangexpander welded D10 10+7 Burgundy/Grey mica
Not listed a few lap steels and a Dual Pro
Present= None. All victims of economic distress. Pretty good run though. No regrets.

Good question Sam. Mine were over a period of + 40 yrs. Some were experiments, some were bought and sold as finances allowed/required. I rarely owned more than one at a time. |

Not sure how I missed this thread the first time around
The year listed is year of purchase not manufacture (except for the Carter & Mullen when it is both).
1 - 1994 Sho Bud D10 (don't remember the model)
2 - 1996 Dekley S10 (don't remember the model)
3 - 2006 Carter SD10 (don't remember the model, but it was top of the line at that time, a blond mica and had a beautiful arm rest that was embossed with a rose of Texas design)
4 - 2016 Fender 400
5 - 2016 Fender 400
6 - 2016 Overfelt 8 string 3x1
7 - 2018 MCI SD10
8 - 2018 Mullen SD12 G2
9 - 2019 BMI S12
Only the Carter and Mullen were ordered direct from the factory, everything else was bought used. Current stable is the Mullen and "Super 400" (made up of parts of the 2 400's). Never really made any progress on learning PSG until I got that 1st Fender 400...at the same time I joined our forum...I think there's a connection there _________________ Hear my latest album, "Celestial" featuring a combination of Mullen SD12 and Synthesizers:
