Just looking for opinions here. For those 12 string universal players out there, which Telonics pickup do you like best. [I have a Carter] Thanks for any replies.

George, I have a 128 on my G2 and really like it. It takes a little while to adjust it to your liking. I think Danny Naccarato also uses one.

I have a Telonics 84 in my Carter right now. Don't like it at all. When I rebuild my Carter, it will be for sale.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have decided to order a Telonics 183, the one with the two blades. [I do like the George L 12-1 also].

Thanks again for the replies. I've changed my mind and I'm going to either keep the 12 string version of the 409 in, or put a George L 12-1 in.

Well, I ended up removing the 427, [the 12 string version of the 409], and putting a George L 12-1 in. The 427 was fine with my Nash. 112, but with the Quilter Pro Block 200 into a cab with a 15" Telonics, the combination was way too trebley. The Pro Block is a very bright amp head, and sounds much better with the 12-1. [also using an MXR eq.]

It depends on the guitar of course, but I have a George L EON in mine which gives a nice middle-of-the-road sound.

Chuck Back of Desert Rose gifted me with an EON 12-string pickup, it's what he uses on his Buddy Emmons 12-string E9/6 tuning (used on the Rainbow album) on his personal steel, and he thought I would love it. Haven't installed it yet, so this is really Chuck's recommendation.

Try it John - you might like it. When I was casting around for something to put in my homemade steel, I did what research I could and fastened on the EON. It's bright enough for E9, smooth enough for B6.

HA! When I saw the subject the first thing that popped into my head was my Rickenbacker 360/12C63:

But I don't think one of those "toasters" would span all the strings for you! Good excuse to post a picture though.....

The EON pickup is similar in brightness to the E-66. According to the George L's web site, it is wound the same as the E-66 but the wire is wound around an iron blade instead of steel "to give it warmth". I had an EON in my Carter a few years ago and compared it to the E-66 in my friend's Carter [using the same amp], and to us they sounded the same. They are a nice pickup, but brighter then the George L's 12-1 that I put in a couple of days ago.

I've been using Telonics 427 on my U-12. It's not listed in the brochure, but can be ordered. It's the U-12 version of the 409.

I'm using a True Tone in my U-12 ZumSteel. It's wound to 19,500 ohm's and sounds great with no hum at all. Super clear highs and solid clear lows.
