This Buddy Emmons and Ernest Tubb's band backing up Willie, right?
This song randomly came on YouTube for me and it's been stuck in my head. It's a distinctly Willie Neslon song, but it's the accompaniment that really caught my attention. If it's the house band backing him up, that means the arrangement was likely hastily put together and improvised, right?
It takes from the Faron Young version, but this arrangement seems more true to the song - even if it was just thrown together. I think it's remarkable. |

The thought crossed my mind. He did play and record with Willie and it does sound close to his style to me. I don't know enough about Buddy Charleton to agree or disagree, but I'll take Jim's word on it. |

| The Ernest Tubb Show began in the fall of 1965 and ran for 3 years. So far I’ve tracked Emmons with Tubb as late as 12/61 and with Price as early as 2/62. That puts Charleton on the Troubadour band ca. early 1962 to 1973. Charleton's first ET session isn’t until 3/2/62 - I’m sure they were working show dates before they got back to Nashville. |
