Pete, is that Lloyd? That is some great pickin there.
This might be a no-no, but I don’t think the steel track on Rose Garden is anything special. The guitar hook is the star of that show anyway. |

That is Lloyd Green on No No. 
Rose Garden is not really a Steel song, but I have always liked that song, and pretty much all Lynn Anderson songs . |

If I have my history correct and maybe Lloyd can confirm this but I believe Lloyd played on all of Lynn Anderson's sessions except the song "Rose Garden" which was Pete Drake....Lloyd was responsible for getting Lynn Anderson to hire me and I will always be grateful...The band was full of session players and the lessons I learned there were priceless.

I often seem to step in it when a certain someone is watching...
I first heard and understood what a pedal steel guitar was when Lay Lady Lay came out. It certainly contributed greatly to the huge success of that song. Guess who the player was? In addition to all the other massive hits he was part of, Pete Drake played on this great George Harrison song and imho it is still among the most beautiful playing ever. Ever.

Fred,
Pete had a way of blending his tone with other instruments. That recording is real special. Do a youtube search for George Harrison and Pete Drake. There are some great audio clips of actual studio stuff from that session week.

I have got a Lynn Anderson single from 1971, "Take me home, country roads" with "What's made Milwaukee famous" on the B-side (my very first country record!). Lots of nice steel playing on the latter, but none of those two sound much like Lloyd, especially not the A-side. |
