For me there is just something about having that 6 string plank on my knees and a Shubb or Stevens bar that brings out a different style. Maybe working harder, or not working as hard. My Gibsons with the P-90 and a small amp give a pretty good blues. Or the Chandler tuned C-6th gives an authentic "Honky Tonkin" sound I love.
I started playing slide guitar Allman Brothers covers and Stones and so forth back in the late 60's. I still like to play some slide on a strat in the bridge out of phase position.
The Pedal Steel is still my first love always. I use to try and carry a bunch of different instruments out to a gig, but over the years I whittled down the luggage, and added some around the waist line.

This is another Great topic..I am all ears and grins. Lets not leave out Al Perkins, he did well both ways ..still can(IMHO)..Sonny L. is a master of dynamics to die for...with taste and restraint as well.
