I'm headed to New Orleans on Jan 24 for a week. I will be visiting Eunice on Jan 26 - 27 to hear as much cajun music as I can find!
Anyone have any tips on where or who to hear on steel guitar near or in between New Orleans and Eunice? Preferably lap steel or square neck dobro.
Also tips on live cajun music?
Or an instrument store worth checking out?
Thanks! |

If you get a chance, check out Dave Easley. He plays a lot of different styles, but is known for his Jazz chops. He plays pedal steel, 10 string Dobro and a 10 string Weisenborn. He is a very popular New Orleans musician so you should be able to find out where he is playing in any of the local news papers or entertainment weakly's. |

I'd recommend getting in touch with Junior Martin (www.martinaccordions.com). Junior is a fine cajun steel player (and renowned cajun accordion maker). He can get ya connected for cajun steel guitar. He's in Scott, LA, which is just west of Lafayette, only about 30 miles from Eunice.
Tell him I sentcha. We were buds back in the 80's at Jeff Newman's steel college. _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Or, right here through the Forum, reach out to Murnel Babineaux, Joe Rogers, Richard Comeaux, or Marty Broussard. Any of them can hook you up. |
Every Thursday night, Richard plays in Breaux Bridge at a place called Buck and Johnnys with Yvette Landry. Richard will certainly satisfy your cajun experience. One of the nicest guys, too. If you get the others involved, Laissez les bons temps rouler.
Enjoy your time in Louisiana. Have an adjustable belt, you'll need it. _________________ Traveler, Peddler and Extreme life lover. Giving up is not an option. |

Stopped in at Martin Accodions today. Great place, and very friendly! I’ve got a Cajun dobro lesson set up for Sunday.
Thanks for the recommendations! |
