Here is an audio track from 1986 when Paul was just a youngster.
Jazz was just being introduced to the steel guitar world at the ISGC.
I mixed and recorded this from 12 channels down to 2 on the fly, into my Tascam CASSETTE recorder.
Enjoy

Thanks Bill,
Its funny how time pigeon holes us as one type of player....Now we are thought of us the twang guys Lol....
Brent and I played a lot of soft Jazz and Bebop when we first got together.....I remember 86 as being the first time we played together at a steel show and it was certainly the first time we performed that song.....This is a better performance of the song two years later in '88 with David Hungate of Toto playing bass with us.......

I recently received a link to Paul doing this same tune two years later, at the '88 ISGC. This version does not have the fiddle, so the steel is much more prominent in the mix. Mike Selecky shared it on my post in the Tablature section for my version of this tune - Thanks Mike. Bill and Paul, if this is not suppose to be shared, let me know and I can pull it. Here is the link to it on my G-drive:

That's great Paul. I have a tape I recorded at Stoney's show in Knoxville in 97 of you, Hal, Jeff and Wimpy doing a jam. Good playing by all of you.

You contributions, Bill, are without a doubt some of the greatest contributions to our community. Your tireless efforts to make this happen are worthy of commendation.
Recent efforts by Paul on his instruction is exemplary, altruistic even. This is what keeps our community going along with many others who continue to make contributions to instrument that we all love and cherish.
Kudos to the nth Degree for you two! _________________ Traveler, Peddler and Extreme life lover. Giving up is not an option. |

Thanks Douglas,
That was a fun set....I played mostly Jazz styled stuff in 88 on the show. I would love to hear a few more of those songs if you have them....especially "Spain" or "Wave".....

Paul and / or Bill - or anybody!
Does anyone know the year of Scotty's Convention, when Paul performed in the middle of a 3-steel U-shaped set-up?
One of those 'steels' may have been a PedalBro.
Recordings of that performance would also be something to share.

Paul, sorry, that was the only song I have from your performance. I PM'd the guy I got it from to see if he has any others. Or maybe Bill does? I'd love to hear more too! _________________ Bringing steel guitar to the bukid of Negros Oriental! |

Wow I remember those great performances Paul did at the ISGC back in the mid 80's! Very inspirational for this young player at the time. Recorded many hours of it at the time. I especially loved that version of If I Only Had A Brain. |

I was just starting pedal steel and the ISGC at Scottys set my head spinning. It certainly was an eye opener of the potential. I was hooked. Paul and Brent were wonderful as well as the balance of the show. Man was I wired after that. Thanks Bill for sharing with us. |
