That was phenomenal! I really love his tone...the “Hokum bow technique” has eluded me since day one, and I’ve never been able to successfully play this classic tune, to my liking. Great find, thanks for posting this one, Herb!

I don't think his version of OBS was ever bested.

Thanks Herb. I was fortunate enough to grow up around a gentleman who was a contemporary of Fiddling Arthur Smith and could play all his material. As far as OBS when I heard this version of the tune by Scotty Stoneman I found myself occupied for about 5 years. Smile

P.S. Scotty was a great trick fiddler and could play this tune behind his back between his legs lying on his back. It had to be seen to be believed.

Ervin Rouse was from Craven County in N.C.
He moved to Florida in the late 1930's where he met Chubby Wise another fiddle player. They were fascinated with a nice train in Florida called The Orange Blossom Special. They wrote a song about it but Rouse copywrited it in 1939 before Chubby Wise did. Chubby Wise had the first recording of the song. And took credit for writing it. Rouse later admitted Wise's contribution to it.
