For those who are patiently waiting for this record to come out, we have postponed the release date to April 20/21 of next year to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the original record and also with National Record Store Day. For those going to the Dallas Steel Show, we will have advance CDs for sale at the show (only available at the show beofre the release date), plus the opportunity to pre order the limited edition vinyl version coming April 21st. The record is getting a full national publicity campaign, along with a single vocal version of "You Ain't Going Nowhere" (featuring Jim Lauderdale, Herb Petersen, Richie Furay and Jeff Hanna) going to Americana/Roots radio. Trust me, it will be worth the wait!

Rats, this keeps getting postponed. Being as the original album is probably 50% of the reason I started playing steel I have been really looking forward to this for many months now.
I am glad to hear it is still going to happen and it does sound like you have some good plans for it, I'm just getting impatient!!

Dave, if you're not being facetious, I think John accidentally added a "d" at the end, it should just be "advance," as in "selling in advance of the release date."

Thank you for the update, John. The original recording started it all for me with pedal steel. It'll be great to have a "steel heavy" 2018 revisit. Smile

The advance version CD will be the same as the normal CD's...normally we don't sell them in advance of the release, but we will have them for sale at the Dallas Steel Show...

Craig, not trying to speak for John Macy, but it seems pretty cut-and-dried as to what he wrote in the original post. If something were to change and the release date were moved forward I'm sure he'd let us know.

I have a Vinyl question, possibly off topic and I am looking to be corrected or educated if need be.

My question is about this album, but applies to the "New Vinyl Era" as well.

Is this album Analog at every step of the signal chain from preamps, mixing board,
mastering all the way to the cutting head??

If not what is the point of Vinyl, except for a fuzzy sense of nostalgia.
Once you put a single digital device in the chain you have corrupted the signal from a Vinyl standpoint. I believe a few people (Jack White) still maintain a complete analog studio.

Sorry for the slow response but I am traveling in Tanzania and Kenya at the moment. Since this project was recorded through an analog console into Pro Tools and then mixed through an analog console back to digital, there are some analog purists that might consider this project “corrupted”. Have you ever compared a completely digital recorded cd to the vinyl version? The playback is very different on each, and would leave that decision to the listener (though I love the vinyl version, assuming it was done correctly. One could even say this version is more pure, since it is avoiding two generation of recording to tape with the noise floor, alignment issues, distortion and so on. It boils down to personal decision on the part of the listener to me.

My turntable sounds better than my CD player. Same amplifier. The turntable is an inexpensive but modern Pioneer and the CD player is a relatively expensive TEAC. Some old analog records sound better than others. I assume that all modern records are recorded and mixed digitally, then mastered properly for vinyl. They do sound good!

I'm not a purist. I just know that vinyl gives me a better listening experience on my home system. Can't wait to get this record!

John, any chance there will be T-shirts at the Dallas show with the new Sweethearts album art emblazoned on them? I would want one if there are any planned.
