The ‘76 convention was held at the Chase Park Plaza hotel. This was my first convention I attended and being a player from the great white North in the boonies the event blew me away, to say the least. We arrived early around Wednesday and I got a chance to hang with Scotty in his office, playing tapes of obscure Emmons and Chalker tunes. Boy was I lucky! We also bar hopped checking out Wally Murphy and a few others. It was one of the highlights of my musical life.

Thanks for putting this back on the radar. I downloaded it into my phone yesterday and listened to the whole thing driving home from a NYE gig my band had in Yuma,AZ. It's all great, but the Emmons and Chalker stuff is really inspiring. BTW, track 30 is the fiddle tune Devil's Dream, not Soldier's Joy.

Hi

I just joined the forum today.

A fresh transfer has been made from Monty's master cassettes and I'm going to work them up in both 16 and 24 bit formats.

There are still some details missing concerning who played what but I would also be interested if anyone is able to tell me who some of the backup musicians were.

Monty has said that on the last transfer he muddled up which tape came first so the running order will be corrected.

I look forward to hearing from you

Mick

Drums. Probably Fred Pierce
Dont remember who played bass.

76 was my first year at convention. Joined the staff 2 or 3 years later

I don't know if I have a 76 program, but I'll look. Duke Dumas played bass on the early shows, I would guess it was probably him, but I have no proof.

I just found an old post of yours which says "'79 was the first year for Duke Dumas to play the convention." https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=1495754

So we can rule him out

Well, what do I know Question My memory wanes Oh Well Other possibilities of the time would be Billy Linneman, Ric Boyer and Henry Strezlecki but I don't know if any of those go back that far and I'm not about to speculate again.🤪
