I was at the Dallas show in 2002 and one morning, after breakfast I wandered into the Peavey room. The room was empty except for Jeff Newman, who was playing a Carter. He was playing Mansion on A Hill in open E with his right hand only. His bar seldom touched the strings. I sat down, unnoticed and marveled at Jeff's style and tone!
I really miss him at the shows. What a stylist!

I came late to the fray, never saw Jeff in person, but this 1990 ISGC Super Jam Together Again video (thanks Bill Ferguson!) is a favorite.

Jeff's joy, creativity and playfulness made an impression that still inspires me.

Jeff played an incredible version of Johnny paychecks hit, "Someone To Your Love To". Watch how he presses the strings from behind the bridge.

I met Jeff & Fran at a Seminar he did in Birmingham Al. about a year before he started the week long classes at his collage.
I was a kid in my early 20's and not only did his talent as a player amaze me but his style and communication ability as a Teacher was beyond simple words.
I read on the Forum a post that said Emmons & Newman may have been the two greatest influences on the PSG. community that ever were.
Buddy showed us what to play and Jeff showed us how to play it.

Thomas. I believe the builder was Barry Thomas out of California. There were quite a few of this brand built and still some floating around here on the forum from time to time.

As I recall, they were very slick playing and well built.

I believe it's Jeff's usual 7+4 12 string Uni setup there judging by the # of pedal rods I can see and some of the low notes I'm hearing.

And another Jeff Newman story. I was one of Jeff’s student, having gone to a couple of his week long classes. Over the years, I got to know Jeff and Fran really well. I was scheduled to play a show that Jeff was the headliner on. While I was playing, I noticed what I thought was the range finding light on a digital camera dancing on my chest. I kept hoping they would go ahead and take the picture and let me concentrate on playing. I finally realized it was Jeff in the back of the room with a laser pointer!

I think Jerry is correct.
I learned this song from Jeff, and I try to play it pretty much just like him.
I love the main riff!
