Looking for a list of the steel players and which years they played for Hank Williams.
I am trying to identify which songs are which neck.
Is it true Don Helms mainly played the E(6)(13) tuning and rarely played the other neck.
Thank you

The steel player on some of the early Hank Williams recordings was Jerry Byrd. |

I can highly recommend the cd that Don Helms made with Lloyd Green, Life recorded. Wonderful playing and great stories. _________________ ----------------------------------

If you start Googling "Drifting Cowboys", you'll find that he had probably a dozen or more steel players.
Or wade through this:

Helms was his most common recording steeler, but Byrd was on I think 13 songs.
Don Davis (Mind Your Own Business, Honky Tonk Blues, Lost Highway), Herman Herron (Fly Trouble, I'm Satisfied With You), and Dale Lohman (Move It On Over, I Saw The Light, original version of Honky Tonkin') were on some well known songs.
Others on the list would include Billy Robinson, Gene Fye, Clyde Criswell, Boots Harris, Doyle Turner, and Robert Norred. But they didn't all record with Hank. |
