How many admit to having G.A.S. - Which stands for GUITAR AQUISTION
SYNDROME. I feel I am afflicted wIth a bad case, myself. For me tho it is included in S.I.A.S. - STRINGED INSTRUMENT AQUISTION SYNDROME. You can finally explain to your loved ones of your disease. Laughing Laughing Remembering the original meaning of CHRISTMAS
MAY YOU ALL HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS. Yours CAA

Unfortunately, I too have the same affliction. My most recent attack was a couple months ago. Result - Mullen D-10 8/7 pre RP. I found there is no cure!

For me, it's lap steels. Especially the basketcases, because they're fairly easy to restore. Plus, they're relatively inexpensive, and you don't need a forklift or a crane to pick 'em up.

I know this video has been posted before but for those who haven't seen it and think they may have a Guitar Acquisition Syndrome problem, you're perfectly normal compared to this collector. Here's Billy Connelly in his Route 66 travel series visiting Mr Rob Lurvey, a man with an UNBELIEVABLE collection of stringed instruments:

I watch that video about once a year and it always blows my mind. The guy has thousands of vintage guitars, lap steels, amps, and accessories. He even has 200 tweed suitcases! Either he's crazy or the rest of the world is crazy, I don't know.

Lots of great instruments going unplayed.. Even if I had the kind of money needed to amass a collection like that, I would never do it... 50 Fender Coronados???.. really?....

I've got it under control, I typically sell an instrument that I don't play that much while purchasing another, if I'm not playing it I want it to go to someone who will, instruments are made to be played not to sit in a case. Instruments sold: Gibson BH lapsteel, Gibson Dual Console Grand 8 string, Oahu Tonemaster lapsteel with matching amp, 1979 Ode C style 5 string banjo. Purchased: Custom Matt Arcara open back banjo, Justice Pro Lite 3x5. I still have my Guild D-40 purchased new in 1967 and my DeNeve Resophonic custom made in 1992 and misc. other instruments.

The only thing I can say in my own defense is that I own way more fly rods than steel guitars.

Probably says something about my toilet training, but I'd prefer not to hear what.

I think that applies to pistols too. Far as I am concerned, you can't have too many guns or guitars....

Only two things in life that I can think of that if you get in a situation where you really need them and don't have them, you will probably never need them again---a pistol or a parachute!!

Hey Folks,
You have to be careful if you have GAS. This could lead to a FART, (Frivolously Acquiring Random Things). Because when one has a lot of gear, one could look down on others, and POOP, (Pointing Out Others Problems). So try not to TOOT (Tell Others Our Tendencies), to often.

..........Just joking around......

I have somewhat controlled this by entering the GWPP in Hawaii and Alaska where the shipping kills the deals! (Guitar Witness Protection Program) Laughing

Couldn’t have said it better. I don’t think owning all those instruments and sequestering them away is anything to be proud of.

If I go a year without playing one of my instruments, I either give it away or sell it.

I agree. Some would call it borderline hoarding or OCD. He says he never sells anything, he just buys. Someday he or a family member will have to clear out and sell all that stuff. It would take years and lots of work to sell thousands of guitars and amps.
