60 watts RMS into a JBL D130 (with its rated sensitivity of 103 db/1W/1 meter) equals 120.8 db SPL. If you need to play louder than that, you need a hearing aid and/or a new band.

I was running a D-130F with a Showman, playing mostly PSG. While I wasn’t running it that loud, I was running a dirt pedal (lap steel) on about 25% of the songs. The speaker blew during a 2nd set at Pappy & Harriets (inside). It was not a loud gig. I think the ratty signal to the speaker did it in. I’m done with D-130F speakers. I use K’s now.

There's at least one D-130 in the Los Angeles area that blew out from playing in a band that did not play all that loud. It happened well before it's original operator needed hearing aids.

If you gotta play loud, get a 1501-4. They hold their own. And a pair of earplugs wouldn't hurt, either.

I have been reading this post and I have a question. I am NO amp tech but was wondering how is this amp other than the mod. to the guitar channel different from the 65 Twin Custom 15? Both standard Twin on the steel channel, both PCB circuits and both 15" Fender Eminence speakers. Question Question Question

The designer of the amp says it has the "Nashville" mod, whatever that means. Very Happy

That was what I was wondering what did that mean. Is the Nashville mod. something that can be done to any newer Twin to make it better for PSG?

Barry,
I kind of doubt it.
That amp was designed by Bruce Zinky for Fender.

Was Lloyd Green using a Fender w/ 2 - 12" speakers on the Panther Hall album w/Charley Pride? Also looks like Hughey was using some kind of Fender amps on the early Twitty Birds videoes on You Tube.

This is in response to Craig Bailey's Nov 10 reply regarding tube suggestion(s).
Pick up a vintage Mullard, Telefunken, RCA, or Amperex Bugle Boy for your V1 preamp - typically a 12ax7 for Fender amps I believe.
If you haven't experienced this before with your other amps, you will (most likely) be amazed at how much tone warmth, depth, & definition improves from just a single tube.
Unless you ask for these, manufacturers & repair techs, will install new Eastern Europe, Russian, or Chinese tubes. These newer tubes are just not make as good. I don't know enough about the methods & materials to comment. But, I must say, I'm impressed with the tubes made in the US, Great Brtain, Germany, & the Netherlands from years ago.
Be ready to pay more.
Make sure the tube tests as good as new, or close - A lot of tube brokers refer to these as NOS (New Old Stock).
Just wanted to pass this info along.

I bought the same amp 3 days ago, and so far I love it!!! Mine has the stock Eminence speaker, which I think I'm going to keep in it.

I used to have a Vibrasonic and I did replace the original speaker with a D130. The D would not handle the power of the amp when you had to turn the volume up in some venues. I eventually replace the D series speaker with a K 130 and it seemed to solve the problem while still having the JBL tone..

On the Panther Hall album Lloyd Green was using a 1968 Fender Twin Reverb with JBL D120F speakers (rented) is what I have read. Sadly I was not there in person.
