I don't have the patience for most videos and while tab can be useful I rarely play anything *exactly* as written - so it's just a loose reference tool.

When I was teaching guitar &mandolin I emphasized *not* getting locked into tab. I found most players who relied heavily on it got lost easily and had no idea how to recover - or they played *every* note correctly...

...with a rhythm that moved between "march" to "shuffle" to "random" - in no particular order! Whoa!

When I learn something new it's always by ear first. Then I might look at tab just to make sure I'm in the ballpark. I rarely use sheet music as almost nothing I learn is easily available. I do have a bunch of Carol Kaye bass lesson books that are mostly sheet music - I probably read the bass clef better than the treble clef!
