At the first Dallas show, Jimmy Day was selling a signed 8 x 10 of him with Elvis.
Through the years, I never heard anything Jimmy was on. Tonight, I heard something. "Tweedle Dee": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T-Ak0p1XF8.
When I was looking for the picture of Jimmy with Elvis, I saw one with Elvis and a steeler named Sonny Trummell. Anyone know anything about him? Maybe from around Tupelo?

Sonny was one of the staff steel players on the Louisiana Hayride--along with Jimmy and I think Felton Pruett and maybe others at one time or another.

He was still playing in the Shreveport area as recently as 2012.

Early and major crony of James Burton, who was fascinated enough by Trammell to make at least one recording on steel.

Here's a few pix of him.

You can hear Trammell's style on these tunes:

Here's Elvis playing off a flatbed truck in Conroe TX in 1955. You can see the name "Sonny" emblazoned across the amp behind Scotty, although the steel player can't actually be seen.

Well, well well. Only on the forum. Great info and pictures. Thank you. Mitch!
I noticed he sometimes goes to a chord with no vibrato and then adds a pretty "aggressive" one.
I wonder if that comes from playing dobro and trying to get more sustain by doing that?

I like the picture of the guys playing on the back of a truck with it looks like a picnic table to climb up on. I played on a few semi trailers over the years myself!!! LOL.
