Not sure of the name but sometimes NBC, CBS and all of the major networks like for brand names to be covered up for licensing purposes. I've had to cover my logo with gaff many times.

God forbid there is one steel guitar being sold because of the TV appearance and without poor Rupert Murdoch getting his share of that profit.... nothing makes me wanna throw up more then good old human greed...

I think it varies from production to production depending on who's producing the show and what they allow branding wise for legal purposes. I've had good luck thus far with NBC, Fox News, Nashville(ABC), Sony, and WGN. But it appears certain award shows along with reality/contest shows like Idol or the Voice are very particular about logos of any kind on camera. Kevin can chime in and would know more about that.

'Colonel' Tom Parker is said to have tried to hit up Gibson for some cash because he felt Elvis' name was bigger than theirs. It was an absurd notion with such a well-known brand but, because they laughed at his idea, we now see Scotty Moore's Super 400 in the 'Jailhouse Rock' film with black tape over 'Gibson'.

Lawrence Welk (or the TV network) made Buddy Merrill cover the Fender logo on his guitar back in the 50s. However, on later Welk shows from the 1970s the logo was visible on Buddy's Fender and Emmons steels.
