Does anyone suffer from sweaty forearms when playing a padded SD10 guitar? its my main concern about the SD-10 I have ordered... When I play my Dad’s LDG, if it’s the slightest bit warm, my forearms are sweating from the Pad... Mind you they may use different material for the pad covering on “Today’s†new guitars and it may not be an issue... But I have no experience or reference point with any of the NEW pads used today.
So I’m asking!!!
I have 4 days to change my order from SD-10 to S10.... WHAT DO I DO?
Go with the S10 or the SD10?

You got me wondering, Dale so I sat down at my guitar, which incidentally is the first double body I've had.
The top of the pad is about a half inch below the plane of the strings, which I guess is about the same level as the back neck on a D10. I have my seat at 22", which allows my upper arms to hang straight down from the shoulder and my forearms to be level, with no bend at the wrists.
So when I play, only the heel of my bar hand touches the pad, no contact with my picking arm at all. Only time I put any pressure on the pad is with my elbows when I'm studying the music in front of me on the stand.
Maybe your seat was too low at the LDG.
If you have always played a D10, there may be ergonomic issues with the different knee lever positions on a single body.
Good luck with your new guitar. What are you getting, if it isn't classified info?

The NEW guitar isn’t classified or secret 
I just got off the phone with Mitchell Smithy. (I have his “Old†Red and Black D-10, and LOVE IT!!!) Anyhow, I love that guitar SO much that I had ordered a NEW SD-10, but was always concerned about the pad and my Sweaty Forearms... But after seeing Mitchell’s and Mickey’s new Single 10’s I started rethinking my order... The NEW S10’s sound incredible and after talking to both Mitchell and Mickey am leaning pretty hard towards changing that order to the S10... I have till Monday before Mark starts on the cabinet... These new S10 weigh in at just 28#’s and the case another 6#’s, so that’s something to consider too.

About 25 miles north of Port Angeles,these days. Unless I've sneaked off somewhere to go fishing, or other very important things (like music festivals).

Just across the water then... I flew into the airport ONCE around 1980 when I went on my long cross country for my pilots license.... Used to go over there on occasion to see in-law family too.... I think we even bought a Bravada there once

Dale,Interesting thread,I was checking out where my forearms line up yesterday and mine hardly touch the pad at all I mainly use the pad to push my picks onto my fingers and a benefit of having dry skin is my forearms never sweat.

| Dale, I myself and alot of other steelers using an SD-10, use a small hand towel under your forearm to prevent this problem. If your accustomed to an SD-10, thats the way to go. Hope this helps. |

I prefer an SD10 because of knee lever placement. I don’t have any problem with sweaty forearms. If I did, I would have the pad covered in genuine leather. Leather “breathesâ€.

Wide body, no pad. (my 2 cents worth) Had an SD with pad sweaty arm(s) were a problem for me. Bill

John, I’m afraid that long sleeves for me would be like wearing Gortex on the Golf Course in the Rain... I’d be dry on the outside and sweating underneath
Even though you “Non Sweaters†won this poll, and I wish i were one of you, sadly I’m not... I keep thinking of my Dad’s LDG and how uncomfortable I am playing it on a warm day.
So with that in mind, and seeing that I’m not totally alone with how an SD with a pad affects me... I changed my SD-10 order to an S-10... It’s actually a Single 10 on a Single 12 body, so there will be room for a small pad, which from a comfort angle, I’ll have put on it... I think I’ll be okay with a small pad.
Anyhow, I thank all of you for you input... It really helped clear the clutter in my head.
I’ll pick up, or get aquatinted with the guitar at the Dallas Show in March and it will be shipped to me a few days after... When I receive the guitar I’ll post pictures of it on this thread so you can see what you’ve all been a part of in a decision I was having trouble making.

Hey Dale,
Why not just pull the pad off... they sound better that way anyway imho, and get little black plastic bungs for the holes. I've used them and they are easily remove-able, non destructive, and look fine. You can make a small pd if that suits better too.
