I'm not much of a DIY-er, but I'm hoping I can get some ideas for a solution. I've got some low back & hip issues, so sitting the correct height at my pedal steel is important. My seat is too low, probably needs to be raised 1.75-2".

I've sent a message to the builder of my pack seat to see if I can find a solution with him (I bought it used from a forum member), but while I wait for a response I thought I'd also reach out to you folks for possible DIY solutions as well.

Your ideas will be much appreciated.

Years ago, I had the same desire: raise the seat 1 3/4".

I took the legs and hardware off, screwed a couple 1" X 4" boards in, and attached the legs to them. Made the seat a little heavier.

Chris,
I extended my steel guitar seat legs by a couple inches vs. changing the steel legs themselves. Since my post below, I've added the bolt through the extension piece rather then the seat legs. The seat legs nest into the extensions. My steel is now very comfortable to play. It works great and easy to do for under $10.00

Hey Chris, what brand seat do you have? If it is a Steelers Choice, give me a call at 501-912-6526. 7 days a week 9-9 central time. I may have a solution for you.
Thanks, Dan Rollans at Steelers Choice

If you have access to a wood lathe, Get a piece of hardwood dowel as big as the outside of the leg. Take a piece of dowel about 4' turn half to fit snug into the leg with a shoulder for the leg to fit against. Epoxy the wood plug into the leg, Drill a couple holes in leg metal and put in a couple wood screws in for good measure. If you are very good with a pocket knife, Wrap the dowel with a piece of paper and mark a perfect round line and start whittling. Then epoxy and put in screws.

Yep, that's where I'm at now. A bench and a separate case. Would rather have a case that's also a bench - fits in one hand, leaving the other free for opening doors, waving, fist-bumping, high five-ing....

Thanks all. Great ideas here, many that don't require me to bug my busy electrician friends. But I may bug them anyway. We'll see.

Ya'll are the best!
