I've been borrowing a Electro-Harmonix C9 pedal from forum member and good friend Doug Garrick.I need to buy my own and was wondering if anyone has experience with both and a preference? |

I've owned both. I prefer the C9. I can turn the key click down further than I could on the B9. I didn't care for that click.
Note: I'm running mine with a Lex and a foot speed controller. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

The B9 is mostly Hammond organ type sounds with a Vox Continental transistor Dave Clark 5 Elvis Costello type patch.
The Key 9 is more than just an organ sound sample, it has pianos, vibes and steel drum tones.
More versatile in that respect. If you want just organ types the C9 is all organ with more combo organ patches ala Farfisa Compact single or Duo and a Clavioline choice.
Guess you decide whether your choice of combo organ is a Vox Connie or a Farfisa (think Ray Manzarek Doors tone Light My Fire) between the B9 and C9.
The "Telstar" setting must try and and mimick the Clavioline used on the original Telstar instrumental track.

Vox Continental
Hammond B3 "tonewheel" organ with Leslie speaker.
The Hammond has drawbars that are responsible for the many different Hammond sounds. Shaping these bars is key, if more than one Hammond organ tone is desired, you will want the B9 pedal.
The Vox Continental also has drawbars but only 6 from the Hammond's 9 and it does not have the quintessential 5 1/3' drawbar that creates that Hammond tone. The Vox is a transistor based organ while the Hammond is a mechanical tonewheel with all tube circuitry.

The B9 versus C9 thing has been discussed in several previous posts/topics.
In addition to which one people prefer, there have also been tips and tricks discussed for using them.
Doing a search will turn them up.
I have a C9 that I use with a Strat.
It gets the point across. |
