My good buddy Alan Rogan was his guitar tech, I sat side-stage with his guitars a few times, very friendly band & crew.

I admired TP's taste in guitars, always looking for the one.
A great talent and will be missed.

The first time I ever heard "Runnin down a dream" I was driving from Buffalo to Syracuse on I-90 on a warm summer day. The tune was new. After a short while i looked down at the instrument cluster to see that I was doing almost 90 miles an hour....

May he rest in peace....

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tom-petty-legendary-rocker-is-dead-at-66/

Seems like the era for getting news wrong. The title of the link is now changed on the site's page..

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/lapd-clarifies-cannot-confirm-tom-petty-death/

Even his Wiki page reported he died and now it's gone...

RIP Tom, thanks for the tunes. Tom lived a great Rock and Roll life, not in your face , not all over the journals, just all over the radio. He was not just a great writer, singer and band leader, he was the great collector, connoisseur of amps and guitars , which was obviously an equal love to his musicianship. He was all in.

RIP Tom , you were certainly one of the great ones.

A terrible loss. Much too young. He apparently dug steel guitar, too. Here's a lesser known cut did with Jay Dee.

VERY tasty playing by Jay Dee. TP had a lot of honky tonk in his blood. Getting used to losing folks, but this really hurts.

What a loss. I went to hear Chris Hillman, Herb Pederson, and John Jorgenson on Oct. 1st here, (a great show).
Chris talked a lot about the new album that Tom produced. Some funny stories, and they played a couple of Tom Petty songs
I am sure those guys are shocked.

Many know that TP was influenced by McGuinn and the Byrds. And as a producer he worked on a Del Shannon record.

Del and Tom

Ron (bass), Benmont (Hammond/Wurlitzer), TP, Mike (lead/slide guitars). Responsible for that inimitable HB sound.

I feel bad for Benmont Tench, Mike Campbell and Ron Blair, the remaining original Heartbreakers. I'm sure Tom was their whole world.

I saw the original HB back in San Diego at the then called Jack Murphy stadium. It was called Qualcomm stadium after Qualcomm bought it, but just this year reverted back to Jack Murphy or San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium.

Being such a fan-boy back then I won free tickets to see Tom & the HB together with the Ramones, Stray Cats, Modern English, Bow Wow Wow by naming all the members of the Heartbreakers on a radio contest.

That was the X-Fest 4/23/1983.

Tom's music was straight forward Americana good spirited rock and I think that's what most of us liked about him.

The Del shannon is indeed a great record, Godfrey. I'll have to get it out and play it again.

Yes Joachim, Del was major American music icon.

Here's a BTS video of Tom and his neighbor the great Garry Shandling.
