.079 Gauge String

George L no longer makes a tension balanced C6th set. I was really liking the steadier pitch of the .079 gauge 10th string.

Anyone have the same experience?

Anyone know of any other sets that get that thick?

I've never tried a .079. I get .074's from GHS and love them.

.079 works for me. It's not perfect but it's more stable than a .070. Works on my Williams but could be too big for other guitars.

Have long been dissatisfied with the intonation on that string and have wondered whether something like the low C extension on a double bass could be applied to 10th string C6th.

Or whether additional length from nut to tuning peg would help. Just change the shape of the key head so the two sides are on the diagonal, parallel to each other.

Lucky, have you tried using the 9th string tuning key for the 10th string and 9th string on the 10th tuning key ?

This is the first I have heard using such big gouges. 68 and 70 I have used. How did it jump up to 79? I'd like to try it. Sounds kinda hard to wrestle a string that big. Might take two people.
