No disrespect but:
There is no hi G# to A?
Lowering the E's to Eb AND the equivalent of the "standard" pedal 5 on "right" knee? These are normally used together? How does this work?
So do I understand correctly that the only way you can get "pedal 5" voicings is to "lock" the E's to Eb?

Carl, after you buy it you can set it up any way you like... no disrespect but, are you interested in buying this guitar or you just posting to discuss a set up? this is "for sale" section, different setups we can discuss in "pedal steel" section of the forum, not here on my "for sale" ad...

I am in the business of buying and selling PSG's. I ask the questions about setups; and a number of other questions; so I can make a more informed buying decision. IE: I am very close to buying a PSG on the forum; that I now believe is listed low enough that I can sell it for a good profit in several years.
Since I do not have time to change setups, it helps me to determine whether or not I can sell it easily. I believe setup info is very necessary for informed buyers. A number of players that I have sold to, do not know how to change setups; but they know what setup they want. I can do it, but again I do not have time to do it. On some guitars this can be a nightmare. Others are easy to do.
In the past few years; I have bought and sold a number of PSG's.

well Carl, then you are in the same boat as me, I have no time or a good place to do it, so I sell guitars with the setup that is on, and I leave to the buyer to set it up the way he wants ... when I buy a guitar for myself, I always have to spend a couple of days going through it, to set it up the way I want, and even then it takes me some time to get used to it, it is just a nature of the instrument I guess... but then again, I do the same thing with banjos I decide to keep...

thanks Ron, those are great guitars, even Buddy said Sierra was his favorite C6 guitar, and he played Sierra for awhile... it is heavy tho ... I plugged this one into my little 112, and it has a great tone, pickup is removable, so player can change the pickups as he wishes to ... great guitars

I assume you are a very good player. If true, it would be a piece of cake; and a learning curve of short order.
Yes indeed; I am a terrible PSG player (VERY true) and the transition to U-12 was practically instant. It is like adding a new change on a pedal and/or a knee lever. Takes little time in most cases to make it natural.
('course. I imagine many would say, ("If you are a terrible player, then there is no learning curve, etc! You could be terrible on either and who would know the difference? LOL")

thank you Carl, but I'm no very good player, not by far.... which really doesn't bother me at all, music was always a part of my life because I enjoyed it, I was never worried about how good I am, I just loved music period.... now days I'm too lazy to make any big changes, but if I knew back then when I first started playing steel what I know now, I would have definitely go with U12 E9/B6 guitar with 7+5 and a lock lever, if I could do it all over again, that's what I'd do, but I'm not sweating about it , it's all good ...

I own this guitar's first cousin. Mine's an Olympic, SD-12U with key head tuners, 6 and 5. Great guitar. I like the single coil pickup, the humbucker is a little too hot, tends to overdrive some amps.
The 12 string pedal steel seems like the obvious evolution of the instrument. Lots of D-10 players with argue with that, OK, I understand.
Whoever buys this guitar will have a superb instrument. It's a little heavy--you'll just have to deal with it. Get an SKB case with wheels and a couple of handles. As soon as you plug it in you'll see what I'm talking about.
I'd love to buy it. I like the red and black but I already have a GFI that's red and black and I own two other SD-12s including the Sierra. Sombody buy this guitar before I have to. |

So I've heard. Also I've played that clip many times--Buddy sounding great as usual.
I bought mine from Ross Shafer several years ago. He's now building the new Sierra guitars. He had refurbished this guitar and installed the new/better leg tighteners--the knobs that lock the folding legs in place. Apparently, the originals were bakelite or some other fragile substance and often broke off. Ross had made the newer ones from aluminum with a sleeker shape and they work fine. Also, he offered to replace those for anyone who had the older guitar--for free! I spoke to him a few times and he was very helpful and knowledgeable about the Sierra steels and was friends with Chuck Wright and Tom Baker.
Jim Palanscar in San Diego has any parts one needs for Sierra guitars.
My black/gold Olympic model gets regular use about the same as my Zum. Both are great in their own ways. Some day I may have to downsize to a lighter guitar (I have the GFI) but hopefully thats a few years away.

yes Sir, Ross sent me set of those newer knobs awhile back too, free of charge... it was my Sierra U12 back then ... and yes, Jim has all the parts you may need for your Sierra .... btw John, nice guitar you have there

| Thanks. She's getting re-strung today for the weekend. I have 4 Patsy Cline performances and one with Tony Harrison at the Broken Spoke on Thurs. The Sierra gets to sing. The Zum comes in for a pit stop. |

Damir....they are indeed great guitars. In 1978 I worked in a guitar shop in London U.K. I asked the owner if we could sell steels. We ordered 8..some 10's and some 12's...We sold the lot within a few weeks
