Putting a rack together and have a Korg DTR 2000 that works nice. However, I use the Newman compensated tuning and the Korg does not detect 436 that I tune my E's to F or E's open to 442 as an example.

I used my old stand by, the Boss TU12h into the Korg tuned the the guitar and made tic marks on the Korg from the readings on the TU-12 tuner. Primitive but got me by.

Rack mount tuners don't seem to be as popular as they were. I have been searching trying to find a rack tuner that could read 442 or 436 not just straight up 440.

I bought a Pitch Black tuner from a Forum member several years ago that is attached under the shelf of my work bench. What a blessing setting up 6 string guitars and digital readout is very stable. But for my rack it won't do I want.

Anyone know of a rack tuner that has the readout I am looking for, not a pedal?

I'm not looking for a strobe tuner. Rather a rack tuner that will read out the A 440 plus
and minus. I might be barking up the wrong tree as what I'm looking for may not be available.

Looks like you might be right, Len. I don't know of any rack mount tuners other than strobes. I would look at any number of Korg tuners for the meter type fine-tuning capability you're looking for. Not rack mount, but very accurate tuners.

First electronic tuner I had was the WT-12. Still as good as any if you don't mind carrying around a brick-sized tuner that you have to manually select for each pitch.

Not rack but have you tried a smart phone app like PANO TUNER?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IgApLvyvTs

It can change the "A" setting to other than 440.

I would think that hardware tuners especially for a 19" rack mount are not up to date as these modern apps.

For many years Korg has made decent rack mount tuners. I bought an old one on EBay years ago that fit the bill for pedal steel until I got a strobe tuner. The new Pitchblack Pro looks very nice. I haven't checked the price.

I've got a behringer with a virtual needle, so you just aim it at the right place (I think it's programmable, but I am convinced that is a VERY misguided approach).

Rocktron Versatone is a rm unit, but it's cents v. Hz. and graduated in segments of 10 but there is some fine tuning and other tuning programming parameters including pedal steel and strobe according to the mfg. propaganda.

I think I'm going with the Korg Pitch Black Pro. I'll put my tic marks for flatted and sharped notes. Nice readout on this tuner and pretty stable. Good price also...

Lee, I’m happy with my Peterson Stroborack... and although I don’t use hertz, I believe they are available with the Stroborack... but don’t take my word for it 100%

Dale, I'll check into the Peterson to see if reads hertz/cents. I can't get use to the strobe reading.

Gonna go with the Peterson Strobo Rack. It's a bit pricy but capable of everything I want it to do. Time to put the Boss TU-12 on the back burner. That TU-12 tuner has been my main tuner for decades. 👍

Lee I think once you get used to the strobe you'll really like it... I find it much more intuitive than chasing the needle... if the strobe is moving left, you're flat, so just just sharpen the note till the strobe stops moving... if it starts moving right, then you've gone a little far... to me very simple... Good luck

Dale, I am willing to try anything but it's "The Old Dig and New Trick" with me. The Strobo Rack also has the Newman setting so it's pretty cool.

I get it... I played about 40 years before used any kind of effects other than built in Amp Reverb... used a small Korg needle tuner till then too.

Len another useful feature of the Stroborack is you can setup your most used sweetened tunings in a preset bank ... I have for example, OE9, SC6, Dobro and guitar all together in the preset bank and just scroll directly to the one I need at the time - a lot quicker and easier than scrolling through every sweetener in the tuner looking for the one you want :-} It's all in the instructions !!

Thanks for the tips on the Peterson Strobo Rack. Musicians Friend was having a Labor Day 15% off sale but is on back order. Must be a popular item as every place I checked was out of stock.

You could try to find a Korg DTR-1 rack mounted tuner

It does both Hertz and Cents

I like mine.
