I'm sorry to report that Donna Darlene Jackson has passed. She underwent open heart surgery, which was apparently successful, but then experienced a stroke shortly afterward, from which she did not recover.
Many of you will recall that, several years ago, many Forumites banded together to raise money to purchase Shot's personal Sho~Bro so that it could then be donated to the Country Music Hall of Fame. As the primary instigator and cheerleader of that process, I got to know Donna and Shotsie to some degree, and visited with them in their home in Nashville.
My condolences to Shotsie and the rest of the Jackson family on the passing of this fine lady.

Sad to hear, Donna was a sweetheart and I always loved visiting with her at ISGC.
My mother also suffered a stroke after a successful open-heart surgery (the doctors called it "an ischemic episode." Yeah... right).
The unfunny joke was that she lived 5 more years as a severe stroke victim. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

This is such sad news! Donna was part of the ISGC for many, many years and we always looked forward to seeing her and Shotsie every year. She would call Mom (Mary Scott) often and say "This is your very best friend!"
Shotsie, we know your pain and our prayers are with you. |

I will surely miss Donna.
Until the past couple of years we always stayed in touch a couple of times a year.
At the ISGC, when Donna arrived, one of her first stops would be the sound booth and I would get a big ole hug.
My condolences to Shotsie and the rest of the family.
A true country legend just joined Shot for some pickin and grinnin. _________________ AUTHORIZED George L's, Goodrich, Telonics and Peavey Dealer: I have 2 steels and several amps. I remember Donna from back in the 50's when she was on WWVA in WHeeling, WV as part of Dusty Owens' show. I got to meet and talk with her about those days at ISGC some years back. Condolences to the family. _________________ D10 Emmons LeGrande SKH (rebuilt by Billy Knowles), D10 Emmons Push/Pull (setup by Billy Knowles) , SD10 Rittenberry |

Donna was a sweetheart. I met her in St Louis and bought a frypan from her. We became immediate friends and I always looked her up every time I went afterwards and she extended an invitation to visit her home if I were in the Nashville area. So sorry to hear of her passing and condolences to Shotsie.

I happened to be browsing the forum when I saw this one. It made me realize how early on I had tried to do her bio. So, if you click on the link at the start of this thread, you will see an updated bio.
And updated her discography as much as I could track down. I am still checking a few other sources, so it will get updated again.
I got to know Dusty a bit and visited with him a couple of times - always enjoyed the stories about his music days.
And I have Shot Jackson album sitting in my living room downstairs that I am to convert to a CD. _________________ Dave
