Hey fellow forumites, I have a dilemma and need some help from some real connoisseurs !
I have had an old fender 400 long scale for a year and wanted to buy a modern guitar to get more deeply in the psg world.
I stumbled on a succession sale and bought a Fessenden D10 8+7, goodrich 120 vp and a pack a seat with tons of stuff for a great price. The thing is that I live on a third floor apt and the guitar is really heavy and I don't see myself carrying the beast around. But I had a sweet deal so why not keep it...
My original plan was to get a S10 3+4 so I would be able to carry it around and honestly, e9th is more than enough for me as pedal steel is not my primary instrument.
Today, I have just been proposed a Carter S-10 pro with a peavey nashville 112 in exchange of a Swart AST Tremolo I have for trade.
Now I'm wondering if I'm just best to try and sell the Fessenden and trade for the Carter. Or is it just best to try and trade the fessenden D10 for an S10 and some $$$. But what's the price difference between a D10 and an S10 etc... Is a Carter pro a same level guitar as a Fessenden ? I'm so new to all of this that I have a hard time making a decision.
Also, I'm in Canada so the opportunities to get PSGs are less common than in the states.

If you can afford it, keep the Fessy, leave it set up, and take the Carter to gigs.

Do the trade for the S10 Carter (as long as it is a pro model and works ) and amp for the Swart. You are coming out ahead.
Skip the complicated stuff.

Alright, here's a little update !
I just got offered a ~73 S-10 Sho Bud 3+4 by Andrew, a fellow SGF member, in exchange for the Fessenden. It's one of the desirable barrels with two holes pullers.
I was going for Bob's suggestion this morning and do the trade but this is kind of a game changer !
I like the mystic behind the Sho Bud...
So... Any opinion on this ?
So many different guitars and so many infos all at once...

Is the Carter a pro model or a Carter Starter?
If it's a pro model, I'd go for it. If it's a Starter, stay away from it.
The Bud has that special tone, but from a mechanical point of view, the Carter, assuming it's a pro model, will function better. You have a lot to learn. You want a guitar that will be as easy to set up and tune as possible.

| Kind of a fancy pro model Carter. I'd trade the Swart and keep the Fessenden. The ShoBud is old and likely to be a bit of a mechanic's special. |
