What a shock...so sad to hear this. Tom always went the extra mile for me. He loved to talk steel too. He sent me a bunch of pix of guitars that he had owned. I never met him in person but he felt like a real friend.
Prayers and condolences to the family... _________________ Tommy Detamore

I just saw this. I am nauseous!!!
I'm in shock......in fact I'm crying. He was more than a great friend to me. He had just sent me a nice birthday present last week. This is hitting hard.
I'll say more later.......
I'll miss you, Tom. Rest In Peace. _________________ David "DJ" Rupert

Wow, what a shock! I came to know Tom through Ray Montee and we have been good friends since meeting in St. Louis some years ago. He surprised me last year while we were attending the TSGA Jam, even though he told me he would likely be there that year. As some mentioned, he went through a lot while caring for his ailing wife for a number of years. Sincerest condolences to his family. Kindest regards, Jim Harrison |

So sorry to hear this...Tom was one of the good guys who gave up much of his last years to attend to his wife afflicted with dementia. I have D2F covers for all my pedal steels and amps. May he rest in peace. _________________ Billy & Meriul Easton

I just bought a PSG cover from Tom about two weeks ago. He asked me to send him a email when it arrived. He wanted to make sure that I was a satisfied customer. My condolences to the Palmer family. |

Tom was a dear friend, and we enjoyed discussing steel guitar, and business, and health issues, and just about everything two friends can discuss. He's been burdened for years with caring for his wife and his own health problems, and I was sure glad to see him at this year's Jamboree.
I am really saddened, reading this thread was an "oh NO!" moment. Another important person in the steel guitar world has left us, and unexpectedly.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

It is with deep sadness I learned of Mr. Tom's passing. He undoubtedly was truly one of the "good guys" and a valuable asset to both the steel guitar community and the music business as well. His covers are one of the best and most innovative designs in protecting one's musical equipment. It was a blessing to have him among us and contribute so much in support and enthusiasm for love of all things steel guitar. May God bless his family and give them comfort during this time of loss. Tom has been truly good to so many in this community.
He was man of quality and a genuine friend in every sense of the word.
We had many conversations about how really happy he has been in recent months to once again be able to play great music with people he truly enjoyed picking with. He said he had almost forgotten what a joy it was.
Playing the steel was a genuine passion for Tom and he loved his legion of friends in the steel community.
He is sorely missed.
Our deepest condolences to his personal family as well as his extended music family.

I had introduced Tom to my father 2 years ago as they lived in the same city and at that time they both had wives who had the same illness. Dad said Tom was just getting everything going well for himself after his wife passed last year. Based on the story my dad heard from Tom's son his passing was quick. What a shame. Every minute on earth is precious. Tom touched and helped my father. Rest In Peace, Tom. |
