This album always made me want to go and play the steel and it still does.
What a wonderful band The Lost Planet Airmen were at their best!

Ollie..Did the album feature Bobby Black, Ernie Hagar, or another player?..One of my favorite recordings is, 'Hot Licks, Cold Steel and Trucker's Favorites' featuring Bobby Black.

Yes, Bobby it is.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the early timeline of Airmen steel players West Virginia Creeper, Black,Hagar for one album and back to Bobby Black?

The album is a recording of parts of their European tour they did in January 1976.
That tour also included Amsterdam where I took these pictures;

After the show I tried to speak to Bobby. It took a while and I forgot all about the girlfriend I took to the show. There I was later that night trying on the phone to repair the damage, but she concluded that I obviously liked that terrible music more than I liked her. I was hurt, but she used the words “terrible music” so it could not have worked anyway.

All three the Commander Cody & LPA albums they recorded on Warner Bros are now released on one double cd.

Altough I have them on vinyl for many years it's easy to have them all in one package.

The first record I had with Ernie Hagar on steel and i have been a fan since then.

I still love those albums after so many years.

Yes, the studio album with the spaceman cartoon on it is the one with Ernie Hagar on it. That is the only studio album he is on with the Ol' Commander. I love that song "Connie", my favorite ballad of theirs. Love Bobby's playing, and especially on this one.

Somewhere in that timeline is Jimmy Day but it only lasted two weeks. Apparently Jimmy was wilder than the Airman and they fired him.....imagine Jimmy Day with the Airmen...would have loved to hear that! Whoa!

Regarding the album "We've Got A Live One Here!" I think I read somewhere that Bobby overdubbed a lot of the steel parts on that record.....

After enjoying the "We've got a live one here" I searched for more. I found this recording on YouTube.

The steel player sounded like Ernie Hagar to me as he recorded with them around then.

At 14:26 "Lookin at the world through a windshield" Bill Kirchen yells "Yeah Ernie!!"

Great live show and I have been an Ernie Hagar fan for many years.

that may explain the echo of another steel solo on the background when listening the album with headphones...

There's another Commander Cody and the LPA CD with Ernie Hagar on steel, "Lost In Space". It's a radio broadcast of a live show in New York City in 1975. Great stuff.

Bobby Black....is a monster steel player, & nice person as well.

I have an autographed copy, from Bobby Black...on that very CD!! Around 2 years ago he signed that for me, & the "Hot Licks..." CD.

Awesome band...with an AWESOME steel player!! Smile
