Jim, I had a Sierra S14 just like this one, except that it was 8p/7K. The tuners on this were the first version of Sierra's keyless design. Mine was built in 1983. I met Bill Stafford at the Texas Steel Convention some years back and he said it was likely that he built mine when he worked for Sierra. It's possible that he built your guitar, too. Anyway, mine was an excellent guitar with great tone and made for a great touring guitar, except for the weight.

Best wishes to both the buyer and the seller for a quick sale.

Keep on pickin'!
Glenn

bump for a great guitar.
For gosh sakes, you can remove 2 strings for an awesome U-12, or 4 strings for a killer E-9.

That is one beautiful steel, so nice to look at in white. My U14 keyless is blue, about the same vintage, also built by Bill Stafford. It's my long term project for when I get the courage to make the jump, but I will string it differently, remove the re-entrant feature and fit a variant of Zane King's E6/9 tuning.

Yes, that is a LOT of guitar. I had the second 14 string built by Sierra and even in 1978 that was a lot of guitar.

I've been watching this guitar and can't believe it hasn't sold by now...this is a monster guitar that will keep you busy for 3 life times, not one.... this is unbelievable price for this instrument... if I was selling it, it wouldn't be less then $4500 easily, guaranteed....

1. Is the price $2650 or has it been raised to $2850?

2. Is the 14th string an F as shown or is it really an E?

3. Under the word "setup", what does CG/LK mean?

4. What do you estimate the shipping would be to Zip Code 30096?

5. Would you change it to the Emmons setup?

Thanks,

C.

Thanks Jim, and I did get the email and responded to it.

There is something prospective buyers of SG's should know. This guitar is MUCH better than the Sierra U-12 I bought several yrs ago; that was built AFTER the new owner of Sierra changed a lot of things. And not all for the good, sadly.

Because of this, I had to sell mine. Sadly, there were a number of problems with my guitar that this guitar does NOT have.

IE: The stops on my guitar were "spongy"; even the knee levers were the same. I fought it and tried to find a way to solve the problems. There was no practical way to fix it; so I sold it.

This guitar has rock-solid stops. Also the legs were flimsy on mine. This guitar's legs are also rock-solid.

There were other problems too on mine; as well as all other Sierras of this series, sadly.

Any one buying Jim's guitar will not have those problems; and they will get a jewel. With all due respect to Damir Basic, I don't believe this guitar is worth $4500 dollars. But it is a very fine steel guitar and well worth the asking price. It is built like a "Sherman Tank". Really! It appears to me to look brand new topside and underside. That is rare for sure.

Finally, making changes to this guitar is easy; as opposed to many SG's; where making changes to the "setup" can often become a nightmare.

For example; if I bought this guitar I would only have one cluster of "left" knee levers; and that extra long vertical knee lever is perfect for this. It would then become a true "universal".

(Note: ALL changes on this guitar's set up; can easily be done with only one cluster. I have done it! You would, of course, have to have 2 Left knee "lefts" and 2 Right knee lever "lefts". These knee levers are becoming quite standard as players like Paul Franklin come up with more changes that are "Gotta-bees". Oh indeed.)

The "lock" feature is at the players discretion; whether it is used or not. That is also a dream; where a player can "Lock" the E's engaged. This is a beauty because it permits you to play identical "C6th" voicings; without having to hold the E's engaged.

Plus; you have more than 10 strings; so you can HAVE the "D" (C# on this guitar-remember "B6th"); AND have the "G" (F# on this guitar); that one must give up on a 10 string C6 setup; when they change the first string to a "D".

So you "Lock" the E's to Eb AND you "lock" the 2nd string to C# as well; as Jeff Newman did on ALL of his "universals". That makes the perfect C6th (B6th on this guitar) tuning. Think about it!

Once again, this guitar is an awesome guitar in all respects. If I was seriously going to buy another SG (except to sell), I would buy this guitar yesterday! I would convert it to a U-12 by not stringing up the 1st and 14th strings with NO losses LOL. Because I have very small hands.

For whatever it's worth. Don't let this one get away prospective SG buyers.

And may Jesus bless Jim with a sale soon.

c.

Mr. Dixon, thank you for your opinion on the S-14. This guitar is a jewel as were all made at this time. It's roots coming out of the aircraft machining business is evident by
the engineering. I really believe that because it appears visually different from that of the standard appearance of
pedal steel along with the lack of understanding the physics involved in producing an instrument this complicated, that many were afraid to purchase them. I remember in my early days I thought the looked"funny", and dismissed any thought of owning one. I regret that and wish I had bought one to play.It probably would have saved me a lot of money and time in my shop, and sure a lot more fun playing one.
Bless you,
jim
