While in Nashville, I met a man at a Vegetarian Restaurant, the "WILD COW". He was talking on an antiquated flipphone and mentioned something about pedal steel guitar to whomever he was talking to....it got my attention and peaked my interest in his conversation.
After he got off the phone, I asked him what he knew about pedal steel guitar. For the next two days, he told me everything I ever wanted to know about the history and events of the pedal steel guitar. I listened intently as he described about coming to town around 1956 and recorded with everyone who had been anyone in town for 40 years. I settled in for the next couple of days with what I call, "The Wizard of Nashville. He told me everything I ever wanted to know about Steel Guitar and the happenings of Nashville during that time. A virtuoso of words so to speak. Nothing I asked he couldn't tell me an answer to. It was Wizardry of sorts.
I said, "Hey man, you are pretty crafty with vocabulary". His reply, "Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible magic".
That evening, we went to W. Nashville at a place called, "The Country Nashville". Everyone knew him. We met Chris Scruggs, Jared Manzo, Wesley, Cousin Kenny Vaughn, and Pete Finney. Who in my opinion is one of the great historians of the Steel Guitar. Not to mention, a fabulous steel player himself. Pete Finney was an incredible source and wealth of knowledge. But not so much as the man whom I had met at the "Wild Cow".
That night, we found ourselves at another wonderful venue of music. 3rd and Lindsley. We were met by such greats of the steel guitar, Robby Turner, Bruce Bouton and Paul Franklin, Jr. We sat at the table and were entertained by Paul Franklin and the Time Jumpers.
That night, I drove this man back home and we chatted in his driveway and shared stories. Mine were about international travel and fighting a war of global terrorism. His, were about about recording hit records with the most famous singers.
I said to him, "Sorry, but whats your name again"? ..........His reply, "Green.....Lloyd Green"

The Charlie Hill I know, knows every steel player there is out there and makes special trips to hear them all play.

I would have asked him about his psychological studies, right before he moved to Nashville.

After returning from Iraq, and in between surgeries and not gigging, I do extend out to visit with my heroes.
Bruce Bouton, who played with Ricky Skaggs had the incredulous effect on me back in the 80's along with Scotty Sanders who played with the Hinson's.
Lloyd and I have been good friends for nearly 30 years, though. The story was depicted in a fictional sense of sorts with a pictorial illustration.
Your contributions of the Youtube video's have helped more steel players such as myself more than you will ever know. When I practice, I always warm up to the video's on your channel.
