My old black box tube which has an Au7 in it has bit the dust yet I want to use it tomorrow. Would I damage it if I put an AT7 or AX7 tube in its place? If I had to choose between the two, which would be better choice? I don't mind a sound that's a little less clean with a bit of distortion compared to the clean AU7. The black box is my buffer in my chain so I want to be able to use it. Maybe Brad can answer. I will order another AU7 asap. Thanks

In that version designed for the 12AU7, the AT7 is the better choice.

You could do either. 12AX7 has more gain than the 12AU7, 12AT7 less. Try it and see what happens. Shouldn't damage anything. I'm sure Brad chose it for a gooood reason though.

Whoops. I see Brad chimed in while I was typing and does't want the extra gain of the AX. I defer to the master of the BB. Not sure what's in mine, but it works great. Thanks, Brad.
