Could I assume the C11 chord be at the first fret also... |
Yes, C11 at fret 1, but you will rarely, if ever, strum across all of the strings and play an 11th chord. I don't think I've ever played an 11th chord in a song! The best way to think of the tuning... it's a combination tuning. The upper part of it is A6 and lower part of it is B, B7, B9. The top 4 strings are tuned to A6. If you skip string 1, you have B9 on the bottom 5 strings.

Strings:
1,2,3 = A major
1,2,3,4 = A6
2,3,4 = F#m
1,2,3,4 = F#m7
4,5,6 = B major
3,4,5,6 = B7
2,3,4,5,6 = B9
1,2,3,4,5,6 = B11 _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

Hi Frank,
Thanks for the info and I am going to set up a Ric Bakelite to the B11 six string Doug mentioned.
What string gauges are recommended for the six string B11 tuning? |

The song "All My Ex's Live In Texas" works really good with the B11 tuning. |

Here's a B11 chart for Sweet Georgia Brown. I converted from C11. If there's any errors let me know.
I sing this in "D", that's why the key is so weird.
Enjoy!

Hey Doug...you had me goin there for a few minutes. I was wondering if you were bending a string in the first couple of bars. Your ring finger, left hand, but the tab shows you're not. Is it just to allow that one open string to ring? Great little shuffle btw. |

No sense in saying good job, or nice work.
Your playing is always in a class by itself.
I do have a question, though...
When pick blocking, how does one avoid that buzz, just as the pick meets the string?
Out of laziness or convenience, I'm not sure which, I have found myself using pick blocking more, but am plagued by that noise.
Thanks.
oh yeah...
Amazing playing, as always!! |

Bill, There will always be a certain amount of "buzz" from the fingerpick when pick blocking. But since pick blocking is used mostly on fast patterns, the buzz is not always noticeable. And if a player picks aggressively the buzzing will be less, for some reason. I do a lot of recording, and when I isolate the steel track on a fast picking tune I can hear a lot of zinging and buzzing from the picks. It's not as noticeable in the final mix.
Several years ago I made a video showing pick blocking close up, slow and fast. The video is kind of fuzzy, but it's worth checking out. The pick blocking starts around 45 seconds in and continues for the rest of the video. You can hear a little bit of buzzing from the picks. ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WG7qSLYOtU _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

Here's a quick arrangement of "Saint James Infirmary" I threw together. I converted it from C11 to B11. It should play exactly the same. If there's any issues please let me know.
Thanks,
mj
Measure 7, beat 4, has a 1/2 step string pull on the 4th string.
