Topic: New Clinesmith Models B and C |

Here's a few new Clinesmith models I have been working on the past several months. Model B and C. Both guitars incorporate a 3 piece body with a neck thru body design, and a "drop top". String thru body .
Model B is based on the shape of Paul Bigsby's Spanish guitar . Though the steel guitar is scaled down a bit in size, with a 24.5 inch scale NOS Paul Bigsby fretboard. I could make this style in a six string version though I dig the 8 string in line peg head on this one.
Model C is based on a classic steel guitar shape . Fretboard wood with inlaid wood frets and a 25 inch scale. This build is dressed out in Birdseye and walnut fitted with my Clinesmith/ Paul Bigsby pickup, but I really designed this guitar for using a hotter output pickup, and a horseshoe pickup. I have sold quite a few Joaquin model 6 string guitars recently I thought I would try this design outwith my classic and beautiful sounding C/PB pickup.
I have 3 other Model C's in the works that will have shoe pickups and one with a new single coil pickup I have been working on. More on those in 2017!

Most of my requests are for long scale instruments. Though I do build my Cast Aluminum Clinesmith in a short 22.5 inch scale as well as a long 24.875 inch scale.

Wow! They're both beautiful! The Bigsby guitar design with the 8 string peghead is extremely cool, but i think I like the more "plain" model C. It really appeals to me.

Todd, they look fantastic. And how could you not want that Model B in your lap? Yeah, I envision these in the lap.
I've played a number of your different models, from the early D-8 consoles to the cast frypan. I think you're really coming into your own with your visions. Always with a reverence for tradition, but a willingness to move it forward. The aluminum frypan is just everything to me, but sometimes I go back to old Wally (my nickname for my walnut Clinesmith) and it's just like "oh man, the wood!" You REALLY know your wood, and these will be great.

Very nice looking guitars.
You're an inspiration to me for sure Mr. Clinesmith. I especially like your laser-beam focus. I'm the opposite - I always have a bunch of unfinished projects of all types cluttering up my workbench. |

Rick, I'm surprised I'm still married building these ...
The guitars sound great, It's good for me to work on tooling up for new projects, I love the R&D stages of building pickups and guitars.It takes a lot of time, but it keeps my brain energized.
Bill, I have a lot of unfinished projects as well, too many outside of the guitar world as we are somewhat part time homesteaders here.
Ron, Glad you're enjoying the 10 string lefty. I'll send you an email....
Here's a few more photos. The guitar in hands shows the size of the instrument a bit better. The lower bout of the model B is 11.75 inches.
The inline head stock design:
After designing and building the Cast Aluminum Clinesmith guitars, the sustain of them inspired me to add some mass to these guitar bodies. Both Model B and C I have an inset block of aluminum that the strings and bridge is mounted to. Did it add sustain ? I'd like to think so.
