"Where No Steel Player Has Gone Before"

It's true! French pedal steel virtuoso Lionel Wendling has released an astonishing CD called "Steel World". Each track is a totally different style of music, drawing from cultures all over the world. It's hard to review except to say, it's incredible! The music is very modern, with a heavy jazz influence and a healthy dose of electronics. Five of the eleven songs are original compositions, and the rest are unique arrangements of songs you may have heard before, including OBS, Rhodes/Charleton's "Honey Fingers", and Zappa's "It Might Just Be a One Shot Deal".

I'm not sure how to order it - Lionel sent me a copy to review. I'll post more info when I know more. This is one that adventurous players will definitely want for their collection.

I've had the great pleasure of hearing this amazing CD. It's totally different than any steel-related CD I've ever heard. Outstanding writing, playing and production by Lionel. Lots of eclectic, world-music influences that we don't typically hear in the 'steel community'. Great job, Lionel!

I saw Lionel play at Harry Guffee's steel show up in Connecticut , must have been early 80's (the one where Reece Anderson headlined). Lionel was impressive back then. I'll bet he's a monster by now. Looking forward to checking out the CD.
