I wonder if any mfr has offers a model with the Melobar tilt neck design to facilitate playing standing up?
I've got a Peavey Powerslide but it never felt right or comfortable playing with the three point strap.
I've seen some very good adaptations of regular lapsteels available with extra width or brackets to keep them a little off the body while standing but I think the tilt neck on a regular guitar shaped lapsteel would be more appealing to me.
I would just buy an original Melobar if I could find one I liked but I'd rather buy something new and custom made.

I don't know of any manufacturer making a standup steel with a tilted neck like the Melobars. I believe that's a patented design.

I have a 6-String model, I have seen no others like the Melobar.

Just piping in for an update; Jake of JJ Bolin Guitars approached me in a music store about two weeks ago on this same subject, = Melobar is patented and trademarked, about building some custom Melobars in Bolins shop. I've had a long fun history with them and it's an intriguing idea. I haven't had time to touch base with John due to my work schedule but we'll see.

There is a design that can keep the stand-up steel look and I am sold on the long scale Telecaster version I now play...

If it happens it will be on Bolins Web site and my melobarted blog.

Never know...[img]
