Thanks to Terry Choate and Larry Black, Buddy Emmons was a special guest on “The Ray Price Tribute Show†for “Country’s Family Reunionâ€. Although Buddy didn’t play on the show, after a very nervous steel player (being me) and an incredible singer (T Graham Brown) performed the song “NIGHT LIFEâ€, Bill Anderson talked to Buddy about his time with Ray Price. He also asked Buddy about what he had been doing the last few years and praised him for his contributions to the steel guitar.
Terry and I, with the help of Jim Kimball and Dirk Johnson, decided to go ahead and put the song “NIGHT LIFE†and Buddy’s entire conversation with Bill on YouTube. You will find the link at the bottom of my post. If you have already seen the performance on RFDTV, you can Fast Forward to the end of the song, at approx. 6:30. The entire song is on the clip, so we can all enjoy as many shots of Buddy as possible. He speaks beautifully and humorously, as he always did. It’s very special and a wonderful tribute, from everyone in the room, to “The Greatest of Them Allâ€.

| Thanks Mike for posting this. I watched the show, but, missed those takes. I, along with everyone else, will miss Buddy terribly. I met him back in the 70's, when he played for our PSGA show. I was still a beginner and very much in awe of him. I continued to see him every year at Scotty's show in the booth next to ours. He was always so cordial and friendly. He will be missed, terribly, by all of us. Thanks again, Mike! |

| Thank you so much for posting that Mike. In Canada we don't get that channel unless of course something illegal is happening. Buddy was such an influence on all of us. His humble approach really showed in that story on Night Life. Just brilliant. You really did him proud with your playing. Well all of us really. Thanks again. |

Mike, thank you for sharing this. It's a true gift to everyone that is a fan of Buddy's, and I'd have to imagine anyone who ever heard him, is a fan. No doubt the greatest to ever play the steel guitar. I noticed that even Bill Anderson got choked up at the end of the interview with Buddy.
I had previously saw the song performance youtube, but without the interview with Buddy. I'll reiterate what I commented there.
I've had the honor of performing at steel shows with some of the all-time steel guitar legends, and of course was nervous about playing in front of them. But I can't even begin to imagine how nerve wracking it would be to play something so iconic as Nightlife in front of Buddy Emmons. I'm sure it was a very daunting task, but you are one of the few who could pull it off so well. An excellent job for sure. |

I have shared the link with some non steel player friends of mine and all are real appreciative especially now, of who Buddy was and what he did for all of us.He definitely is the reason I even wanted to start with this tone monster. Mike have followed you for years, love your stuff....really wanted to see you in Dallas this past spring but that wasn't in the cards. |

Mike, thanks for posting this. You did a masterful job, and T Grahm tore it up. I tell young people here in Buffalo that if they ever heard REAL country music live that they would have a whole new appreciation for it. The trouble is that there are not a lot of people left who know how to cover REAL country music or they don't have the ability.
I remember seeing Led Zepplin on their first American tour and it hit me like a ton of bricks. Then I remember see the Everly's the first time and it hit me like a ton of bricks. Then I remember seeing Buddy Emmons for the first time and it was the same feeling. You knew that you were watching a world class talent. He was the father of pedal steel guitar and the was only one Buddy Emmons. They broke the mold. He truly was the best. |
