How many of you on this Steel Guitar Forum did Blackie Taylor teach how to Play the Steel Guitar? He as a long time friend of mine for many years is one of the true Pioneer Musician to the Steel Guitar and to our History of Our Neighborhood here in Southern California that should truly be Honored in the Country Music Hall Of Fame in Nashville,Tnn. right alone with Jay Dee Maness & Red Rhodes. | Count me in Leo. Truly "da man" when you talk steel guitar here in so cal. Funny thing happened while taking lessons from him...we became friends. I still drop by every now and again, always need something and wind up spending countless hours chatting about the good ol days. |

| Blackie was my 1st teacher as well in the early 70's. I used to drive to Hawaiian Gardens weekly to take lessons. Great guy!! |

| I'm in. Mid seventies, Hawaiian Gardens. I was still in High School. I heard Maurice Anderson play there with Buddy Emmons on bass. Unforgettable. I hope Blackie is OK. |

I'm in on the nomination too! I met Blackie when I first moved out to California in 1977. I had just gotten my first PSG, a brand new ShoBud Pro II and being stock, it only had two KL's. I drove to his shop from Dana Point, and he added the other two. Great guy! I always remembered him, and was happy to hear news of him here on the Forum.
He deserves it!

I used to drop by his house/store (the "showroom" right off the kitchen!) when I was out in Riverside - when he was open, which was hit or miss. Didn't take ;lessons but learned some stuff about the different models & history. Real character.

| I nominate Blackie for the hall of fame he should have already been there I think he has probably taught everybody in ca. I know he gave me a lesson or to he is one of the best if u need help he will always b there I really respect him |

Blackie was my teacher in about 1974. Palenscar, I bet we crossed paths there and never knew it. His method helped make me a pretty good 6th player on E9. Great guy, yes, get him in the HofF!

I bought a GFI s/n 035 from Blackie back in 1992. I loved the way that he teaches and still prefer his grip/label system over straight tab. Was only able to take lessons for 6 months before mandatory work overtime kicked in. Was never able to get back to the lessons.
Then moved to Las Vegas and I am now in Montgomery, Alabama. So far I have not found a music store that serves pedal steel players. I only wished that I could have continued to take lessons from Blackie. I can only imagine what I might sound like today if I could have.
I would put a vote in for the entry into the Hall of Fame. |
