I never met Gene in real life, but he was a prolific writer here on the Forum since 2000. A gentleman and a fine player as his albums attest. Rest in peace, Gene. You done real good.

I read Gene's goodbye letter. Like Roy, he was ready to go home! What an awesome thing to be at peace like that. Roy thought a lot of Gene and had many conversations with him. He will be missed and remembered. My prayers go out to his family and friends that God may comfort them. Time is God's best healer. It's sad that he is gone. Laurie

Sorry to be tardy wishing you a farewell, Gene (I know you hear and probably see us from such a grand place you are now at); I've not been on the SGF very often for awhile now; But wanted to take a moment and wish you a fondest Farewell. I always admired and looked up to you, even if only by your most respectable and meaningful postings here on the SGF. What a grand thing to finally rest and be at full Peace in that place many if not most of us look forward to.

I met Gene Jones through this forum. We discovered that a bass player by the name of Shauna Lawrence had played with both of us in the past. Gene and Shauna played in Merle Lindseys band in Oklahoma. She played bass for in 1966 here in Colorado Springs until 1968. She was a great bass player. She left the Springs and moved to New Mexico and I only heard from her once after that in the middle a night about 3:00 am.

Gene and I met face to face in Dallas one year and had breakfast together at Denny's. I really enjoyed getting to know him and hearing some of his stories from the past. I have seen the pictures of playing with Conway when they were in the Air Force I think. Anyway I was sad at his passing but glad I got to know him a little.

George, I wish I had met him. Although he and I were as different as can be on the surface, that guy and I are twins when it comes to steel.

Gene was Great, I loved the historical stuff on his website about growing up in OK and his stories of his family during the dust bowl. Also touring with Conway and others.

His daughter was also shot in San Francisco at an office building along with others, and survived, tragic story, he lived a full life, I miss him
