| On Oct. 16, 1998 at a little church on West Davis in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas Texas, my old friends Dwain Hobbs and Bro. Dave Rich, had Jimmy Day come up from Austin for a Fri. night jam. When I walked into the church, there was "The Mullen Blue Darlin", a Blue Webb amp, and a Blue Steel Seat. Jimmy was wearing a Blue Western cut Sport coat. Now this wasn't your typical Sunday morning church service, this was an all Black congregation that believes in Shoutin' and Worship with a Loud Band. I brought the Marshall 1/2 Stack and the Gibson Les Paul, and we played country and blues. Jimmy, obviously had never heard my original songs, but he never missed a lick.....He also did a Song, by himself, and the crowd loved it....At the end of the evening, I sat down behind "THE REAL BLUE DARLIN", but I couldn't play it. "IT WAS THE DAY SETUP". |

Here's mine. Not so blue now, but it started out just like Jimmy Day's.
I had the E9 pickup off once and saw the original color. The same exact fading happened to this wooden bowl, so the bottom of the bowl shows what color the guitar once was.

This is the most beautiful collection I've seen (tho I almost prefer Richard's deep blue best, except there's Alderson's Derby...)
Here's one I used to own, my very favorite, love to have it back:

Yes it is. I must add that it is bluer outdoors and my being somewhat red/green colorblind helps.
Kind of sea blue. Wonderful guitar in every aspect.
It didn't make it back from Pennsylvania.
I miss my MSA more than I do my MRS
(but you gotta love'em anyhow).

OK here's mine, doesn't hold a candle to some of those pretty guitars already posted but I have owned it since 1982 and it's still my regular player. This is not a good picture the real color is closer to what you see on the left side of the guitar. Some subtle modifications by Paul Redmond.

It's funny, the first guitar I EVER heard of, was a 'Fulawka Blue Darlin'...
I had a friendly neighbor (in Montana) who told me he used to own and play the finest Pedal Steel ever made. I wasn't sure if I should take him seriously and didn't know much about steel guitar at the time, but the way he talked (reverently) about that guitar sparked my initial interest.

Kyd, I get sentimental when I see this guitar. I've had one (with only two pickups), and I sold it. They are so good looking.

Joachim - I had to wait nearly 50 yrs from when I first saw McGuinn playing one of these (the 2 pick up 360 he first played) to have one of my own. Interestingly this guitar spent some time in Germany in its life. There's a sticker from a German guitar shop on the back of the headstock. It's currently at shop getting a pro set up since I got the bridge a little out of whack, but when it get's back I'll let you know where it lived in Germany!

Here's a picture of the "Blue Darlin' Fulawka" that Ricky Davis ordered from Ed Fulawka in the early 2000s. I bought it from Douglas Berry in 2005 and enjoyed playing it for five years. It is now taken good care of by another Swedish steel player.
