Andy, I've always wanted to experiment with a tonerite! Let us know how it goes. |

Well, so far, after about 7 days on the Bear Creek it killed the strings which makes sense since it's the equivalent of days of playing. So, I need to restring it and see if I can hear any difference. I have three instruments that need restringing but I've been so busy and it's so humid here they'll have to wait a bit. Stay tuned. |

I'm staying tuned. Eric Schoenberg uses a tonerite in his shop and swears they work wonders. |

Well ...... this is really, really curious. I ran the Tonerite on my Bear Creek Weissenborn for about 6 or 7 days then noticed the strings were thoroughly dead. I left it in the case for about 2 weeks until today when I put on an identical set of Asher Acoustic Strings.
I strung it up and my first thought was "Crap! I've wrecked my guitar!" It sounded really lousy with what I thought might even be the maddening rattle of a slightly loose brace. We all know the sound and feel of new strings stretching out and needing to be tuned multiple times til they settle in. This wasn't it. My subjective opinion was the guitar sounded worse than before. I was pretty bummed but kept playing it for about 30 minutes.
Somehow in that time I noticed a difference. The guitar seemed to be getting more responsive and its sustain was longer than usual for this instrument. 40 minutes in, the guitar was sounding more even. Overall, I was hearing less bass to treble separation than before but much more sustain. We'll see if my impression holds over the next few days or is in fact colored by not wanting to have wasted 150 bucks. For now, I'm like Mr. Spock raising one eyebrow to exclaim: "Fascinating". |

Andy, thank you for the report. What you're experiencing sounds right to me: The sustain of the Weissenborn and the midrange punch of koa. Like the tonerite made your BC more itself.
That sounds hokey, doesn't it? There may be no way to avoid that when talking about the effect of the tonerite. If either of us starts talking about the guitar becoming sentient, I'll expect an intervention from other members. |

I've been hearing about the Tonerite for years and I'm quite curious about it.
Is the effect of using the Tonerite only temporary?
How often are you supposed to use it?
Does the guitar keep reverting back to its original stiff sound, or does the effect stay with the instrument? |

Here's a an evaluation by an accomplished player that shows before and after clips back to back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtDXnTGnNc8
And here's one on a solidbody electric: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6NhzBU34vQ
I've read conflicting reports. Some players leave them on all the time because it keeps their guitars at optimum playing capability. Others say it worked best on guitars that haven't been played for years and less so on guitars that were played often.
I rechecked my BC a few hours after the re-string and I'm still hearing that the guitar seems more open and louder but I'm also hearing a very slight rattle on string 2 that worries me a bit. Next morning: sounds great, no rattle. Go figure. |

Looks like they did a very proper test scenario. Problem is, you can't trust your hearing because it's so subjective, you hear different every day. Only a blind test can show if you can really hear a difference between A and B, very proper test scenarios have to be created, because for example moving a mic only 1 centimeter can make a huge difference. |

Regarding the picture in your original post, I think I'm in love! Threre are about three guitars I really want these days and one is a hollow neck. |
