Here is the maestro with his Emmons LeGrande performing a couple of tunes with the wonderful Charlie Walker from a few years ago

I would have enjoyed that much more with a lot less drums, and maybe some rim shot occasionally. Sounds like a country band with a pop/rock drummer. Am I the only one who hears it this way?

Tommy is something, isn't he? Personal preference on the drums, I guess. When I was still doing that, when the singer started, I went to the rim most of the time.

Ditto on that. Tommy is an outstanding player. I guess I got used to hearing it Charlie doing it on the Opry for all these years and I never remember the drums being so out in front to the rest of the music.

Roger - if you say rim shot, that's good enough for me. You're on of my favs!

Here's a couple of classic live versions of Charlie doing "Pick Me Up On You Way Down" featuring Weldon Myrick on one and Walter Haynes on the other. I think all three are great.

I worked with Charlie some years ago and I remember him turning around after we did a decent break on one of his songs, and said, "Boys, you're too loud." Laughing
