I talked with Ricky Davis about this a couple weeks back (I wanted to try out his Jagwire signature strings), and have done a little shopping around - seems like the sets of strings that feature the wound 6th (.22) are also the ones that feature a heavier 3rd string (.115 or .12) - because I guess the wound 6th is more popularly used on the 24" scale instruments...

I have a Mullen (24.25" scale) and would like to stay away from the heavier 3rd string, but would also like to stick with the wound 6th for a while... Is there a set out there that contains both the wound 6th and the light 3rd string?

I'm thinking maybe the closest I can get is the Jagwire Lloyd Green set, which has a .115 3rd.

Nathan,
I usually contact Malcolm at Discount String Warehouse for most of my string needs. He can be reached at 270 886 2954.
I often buy particular gauges in bulk, but when ordering sets of strings, he has no problem in customizing the order.
I use the GHS Boomers, and he will make sure I get the reinforced 11 & 17, and also substitute a wound 22 instead of the plain 20. -- Marc

Just order a Tommy White set from the Forum Catalog, and specify substitutions for the gauges that you want to be different. I keep a big stock of singles on hand, so I can supply whatever you need at the same $10 price.

My JCH is 24.25 scale and I use a wound 22 and a .012 and I don't have any problems tuning or breaking strings with these gauges.

Thanks, everyone! b0b, I should've read up on your string substitution policy - that is really great!

Marc and Tony - thanks for your input!

John, I will give those CS strings a try... Didn't realize they'd use a wound 6th.

Thanks again for the swift responses!
