I'm new to these metal bodied resonator guitars (for Hawaiian style). I'd like to hear any pointers on getting the best tone, ie strings, picks, techniques, etc. What tunings work best?--right now I'm working on Brozman's video with the low bass G Hawaiian tuning. Any tips would be great!
Thanks,
DD

My 1928 style 2 setup:
John Pearse strings www.jpstrings.com/brstring.htm - open G set (#3100)
Use Low G tuning on a National (the guitar really starts to resonate) High G tuning works, but it really doesn't allow a National to shine.
I use a "Bullet" bar (vs. a "Stevens" bar)
Metal fingerpicks, plastic thumbpick.

Loose, wide vibrato....agressive picking.

I've got the Brozman video too - good, isn't it ? . I got half way through it and then got diverted by the Stacy Phillips book/tape which has quite a few Hawaiian tunes in open D. I find open D sounds good on my Tricone plus I can do Steel Guitar Rag in that tuning as a bonus Smile
