Just had a listen of Jerry Jeff Walker's newest recording on Spotify which features Mike Hardwick on pedal steel. Really beautiful stuff. Nice job Mike. The new CD of which I speak which also is available on DVD is "Live From Dixie's Bar & Bus Stop".

Anybody know what Mike's steel, effects and amp set up is? Maybe Herb Steiner knows?

I don't know what he's playing now but he at least used to play my never-ever-should-have-let-it-go '75 blond p/p. That's the guitar he used on Cowjazz, though that's been a few decades...

I had a chance to see one of his shows a few months ago but passed because I didn't think he had a steel player in his band.

AFAIK, Jerry doesn't have a steel player in the band, but then again I'm not much up on his scene; my working with Jerry Jeff ended in the mid-70's. I'm not even sure who his players are nowadays. Mike could very well be with him.

Mike's "real job" is working for the US Dept. of Treasury, but when he plays steel I think it's still the blond lacquer Emmons Chris mentioned, which is now minus the C6 neck and undercarriage.

One of my first records with steel was "Viva Terlingua" which featured Herb.

Thanks for the heads up John, I just got his new cd, 'It's about time' a few months back. Lloyd Maines plays steel on that one, excellent record.

I'll have to order the live one since I have everything he's done!

Enjoy your stay in Costa Rica. Good time to be away from Vt, it's cold up there now.

Chris Bauer, watching the video of the Live From Dixie's.. show recorded back in 1984 (it was posted on YouTube 2 weeks ago). Mike Hardwick is in fact playing your blonde PP. Sweet guitar.

RIP Jerry Jeff, son from Oneonta, NY.
