I've noticed a high-pitched overtone when I shake the bar for vibrato on my 3rd string. It's not the scratching of the bar on the wound string. It sounds like it's coming from the bridge or saddle, but I'm not sure. Is there something I can do about this?

The cone is probley a little lose. Tighten the bolt that goes thru your cone, you can get to it thru the hole in the hand rest with a little phillips screw driver. Do not tighten it too much or you will break the cone. Have a Great day, Chuck

Exercise caution with that screw. Stop 1/4 turn beyond the point of resistance.

Also check the saddle/nut for wear and make sure the tailpiece is not coming in contact with the coverplate.

One of the joys of owning the resonator guitar is tracking doen all those resonances.

I agree Howard - it comes with the instrument.
I changed my strings (one at a time and very carefully) recently and now I have a strange overtone (almost a howl) - only at the 7th fret and predominantly on my 3rd and 4th string.
Been adjusting everything that I can except the cone.
It's always a last resort for me.

It once took me 3 weeks to track down a very slightly loose screw on my tricone which had been causing a rough buzzing sound - only when rolling around a C chord.
:confused

The joys of (and few frustrations of) resophonic ownership.

Good luck - be patient.

Do the easy thing first. Change the offending string,or better yet the set. The only time you want to mess with the bridge screw is if the whole guitar starts to buzz. You can really kill the sound if you crank the screw in too far. If you havent done any thing radical to the instrument the string change is the best bet.
