A friend of mine is looking for a lap steel/amp combo in "mother of toilet seat".
Seems that some manufacturer (can't remember the name) put out such a product years ago.

Anyone know who the mfg was or have such an instrument for sale?

Thanks.

There were many sets of that type manufactured, a great number of those by the Valco Co. in Chicago. This firm manufactured guitars for Regal, Gretsch, Supro, Dickerson, Alkire, Dobro, National, etc, etc, etc, and many smaller "custom" brands.

These things show up on eBay all the time.

The models I can think of, off hand, that I have seen with MOTS on both guitar and amp are Supro, Magnatone, and Dickerson. I am certain that there are many more that I have forgotten or are just unaware of. Brad Bechtel would have the definitive answer, I am sure.

Mark: Further to what Herb said, there are still many m.o.t.s. lap-and-amp sets to be found which were manufactured by Dickerson. They appear under a variety of brand names, including Dickerson, Magnatone, Leilani and Oahu, and in a number of colors. Grey and blue are the most common, but there are also some really beautiful shades of green and pink/red, among others. Many have faded over time (you'll often find the guitar and amp are rather different hues), and most have some damage, either wear through the wafer-thin m.o.t.s. covering or erosion of the painted-on fretboard, but there are still a surprising number of mint- or near-mint condition sets out there. Not the greatest instruments, but they sure light up a room.
