I just scored a great deal on a used amp!
It's a Peavey Stereo Chorus 212. I have been looking for a larger SS amp for steel guitar, because all my other guitar amps break up too soon. (Not enough clean headroom) When I need to play at higher volumes in a band situation.
The Peavey has two scorpion 12" speakers and 130 Watts per channel! It's loud and clean and the effects are very good.
I was considering a Peavey Nashville 112, but this is twice the amp for half the price!
Have any of you played through a stereo chorus 212?
It's an older (Discontinued?) model but mine is in mint condition.

Scorpions are breakup-prone: The makers built them that way. But you can find steel friendly 12s easily enough. If it rats out, don't give up til you try some.
The EQ may prove a bit hard to get THAT tone, as they didn't build it with steel in mind.
I've heard it's like trying to get a good steel tone from a JC120.

| That's the amp I use most, since it's got some good sound EFX built-in. Mine's got the LeMay mod (which took away the notorius Peavey/nasal sound) and I also swapped the Scorps for Bass-Lites, to make it easier to schlep around. |

I had one for awhile and wasn't thrilled with it for steel,but I'll bet that if you swapped out the speakers as Lane and Donny mentioned,it'd sound great... Maybe the new Eminence EPS12C...??

I haven't noticed any speaker break up at all, and I played it way louder that I would ever need to...
The EQ seems pretty simple to dial in, but I guess it makes a difference what amp you are used to using.
I still feel like I stole this thing for $155.00 out the door!
No regrets here.

| I had one once, It's a heavy amp, and I think it's probably better suited for guitar. I've played a couple of guitarists that used them; they sounded pretty good. About the speakers, they didn't seem "break up prone" at all, to me. In fact I sold the amp, without the speakers, and used the speakers for steel, in two 1x12 cabs. They sounded good and I still have them. They're the same as speakers in the Bandit and Special 130 amps. Both of those amps work pretty well for steel too. |

I've been playing with my (new) amp for a week now, and it did take some time tweaking to get the tone right for my lap steel.
But I tell you what... in over 40 years of playing in bands and recording, this is the loudest and cleanest amp I have ever played through.
My ears start breaking up long before the amp or speakers even start to push a little bit!
Yes it's very heavy, but I will only be using it for larger gigs, and then moving it on a wheeled cart.
I'm One happy Peavey owner!

I had one of those also. I replaced the peavey speakers with JBL,s, made it weigh more, thats about it. I never did like it for pedal steel. Great amp for six string.
