If you were able to master any other musical instrument (other than Pedal Steel), what instrument would it be?? Paul Franklin was quoted in an article a few years ago that he would choose the harmonica. His reason was that when he was done with a gig, all he would have to do is put it in his pocket and go home!

Kantele! That´s the only instrument on earth that sounds even sweeter than steel guitar.

Ah, The HARP....
Most soooooothing. I saw one played one time, and was blown away. It is played with Pedals also.
No wonder SAUL was taken back when David played a harp in his presents at the kings' Palace.

Kantele is Finland's national instrument, much like an autoharp, but then again not. For more information, check: http//virtual.finland.fi/finfo/english/kantele.html or www.kantele.com
I have a 30 string Kantele, that my greatgrandfather built in the 40's, can't play it though, but it's beautiful and sounds huge.

Hammond B3, although that would be even worse to haul around. I settle for simulating it with my IVL MIDI rig for now.

I'm with Ron, definately the Harp, I suppose I'm bias being a Welshman, but it has got to be one of the most beautiful sounds there is.
Cheers
Dave.

Forgot to mention, in some ways the Harp is related to the Steel, it too has pedals that change the pitch.

Piano (and keyboard variants such as Hammond organ and synthesizer). Piano was my first "axe", actually.

Marimba. It's my 2nd-favorite sound.

I'm moving this topic to the "Steel Players" section of the Forum.
