Yes!!
Instead of all the crap I read after my vacation, where people take and hold back a pissing contest on Jeff Newman, I would like to introduce the idea of a forum awards. If you got ideas about the subjects:
Here are some of mine:

Steelteacher that got most of us starting on pedal-steel:
Jeff Newman

Most innovative steelteacher:
Joe Wright

Master of nashville-tone: Lloyd Green
Master of belly-growl : Buddy Emmons
Master of innovative playing: Paul Franklin

Most innovative pedalsteelguitar MSA Millenium

Best steelguitarpromotion Carter Steels

Greatest USA steelfestival: St Louis
Please guys: add nice subjects!
Bob, as soon as this turns into a negative crap-dump, please close the thread. Thanks, Johan www.steeljj.com

Some more suggested categories -
Best dobro player:
Best non-pedal steel (current):
Best non-pedal steel (ever):

(although Paul Newman says, regarding the Oscars, in an article in Time magazine, how can you make an artistic occupation into a competition? That's why he likes motor racing. "Your bumper is here. That guy's bumper is there. You win.")
I still applaud your try at a positive approach, Johan

Hi Nick,
please, understand me, I HATE COMPETITIONS!
but I think it's good and respectfull to now and then get a steeler or organization on the pedestal, for a certain time, let's say a year. It can pay respect to them, and means to say thanks for contributions to the steelguitarworld. It would be unhealthy if this grows into a competition, you can't judge music and performancers on taste, you can't measure
thanks,
Johan

Johan, I don't know about your choice for belly-growl. You have never heard my belly growl. Can wake my wife up from a sound sleep.

I've never heard a steel player I didn't like....but if we could only keep one of em it would be Mr E. Because he has all that stuff and from what it sounds like from the folks who heard him in Texas...he ain't done yet.

Bob.

Carlene Roller suggests that there should be an award for the "simplest player". She would not elaborate.
