Interesting. I tried a Beam Blocker in my amp, and loved the results. Been using it for about6 months now.

not many do that but the one i know who does convinced me to do so
Thanx to Jean Yves Lozach

When I said "aim it up at the ceiling" I didn't mean straight up, but just up at an angle so it hits the ceiling above the audience.

I guitarist here in VT has a Deluxe with this louvered speaker shaped piece of plastic in front of his speaker and it sounds/disperses good. It's as big in diameter as the speaker but doesn't entirely block the sound. It just redirects it outward. The louvers are gradually slanted.
I'm quite sure it is no longer available though.

A blocker might be needed at louder volume levels mainly for protection.
When using one at low to moderate levels though, it sounds like the upper mids have been boosted.
That's what it simulates when you block the higher frequency range that you're used to hearing.

I've had the Weber Beam Blocker in my Webb w/15-inch JBL. Can't tell all that much difference from where I sit, but hope it's easier on the audience and dancer ears. Don't notice any artifacty tone, like others report.
